Driver's seat getting mushy

On my '96 GXE with cloth seats, I notice that I'm sinking farther into the driver's seat than I used to, and I'm feeling more of the seat bottom (and I'm not heavy).

Has anyone noticed this problem and fixed it? Can you get new cushions from Nissan and install them yourself? Take out the current cushion and bring it to an upholstery shop to match? Pull one from the passenger side of a junked 4th gen?

Or rather than fix the current seat, has anyone installed a seat with better side support? The 4th gen seats don't hold me very well around corners.

Pulling one from the passenger side of a junked 4th gen sounds like an excellent idea. Though you may not be able to use the seat plate from the passenger side if it's for power seats. You would probably could use the cushion and the attached leather from the passenger seat.

Drivers side seat plates for power seats tend to break, the two large bolts that attach the seat plate to the seat bottom, the mounts tend to break off. I changed my seat plate recently because of this and added some padding to the side bolster for the seat bottom. Was not that difficult and am happy with the result. A good cheap fix.

Same problem here. I am a tall guy and when I get into the car I sort of hop into it and hit the seat pretty hard. The seat started to sag and lost its cushion.

I did as was suggest above. I found one at a salvage yard and pulled out the cushion and slapped it into my seat. Worked like a charm.

If the seat you find is in better condtion than your own seat then just buy the whole thing and call it a day. It will be easier just to buy the whole seat and bolt it in rather than to go through with the cushion swap.

Pull the seat and drop it off at an auto upholstry shop. The'll install any type of foam you want which usually gives you a better seat. I did that to my Explorer, it made a huge diff. to my front seats. Best 300 bucks I ever spent on my truck.

Better safe than sorry, if you do go this route, pull one from the drivers side.

As mentioned in previous posts ... All are possibilities.
