So my air conditioning, which I do not use regularly, only puts out warm air now. After searching a bunch of threads, I tried listening to hear if the clutch turns on, but do not hear anything. I took it to a place to recharge, and those guys told me it was charged - 100psi on the high side, and 40psi on the low side.

How would I check if the clutch and/or compressor is seized? Ease the tension on the belt (how?) and then try to spin the clutch?

I am a relative noobie to any of the inner engine workings. I understand how the engine works, but have only replaced oil/spark plugs and simple things. Any help (pictures?) would be appreciated.

Those numbers don't make sense. Take it to a different mechanic.
If the system isn't running, static pressures should be equal on high and low sides. If its' running, 40 is to high on the low side and 100 is to low on the high side. Again, those numbers don't make sense.

 

If I remember correctly, when the compressor is running, the low side s/b about 25, and the high closer to 200 (actual readings depend on ambient temperature). I would take it to a qualified A/C shop, guesswork on this kind of problem leads to nothing but frustration (speaking from experience)....

 

My fourth gen only pumps out warm air too. Is there any way to round down the problems without going to the mechanic?
