Does anyone have H&R springs with stock struts?

As some of you may know, Im in the process of demodding the car and would like to sell it stock. So im taking out my tein SS coilovers. I checked to see if I have all my springs and struts and it turns out that I have the two front H&R springs, oem rear springs and all 4 oem struts. NO IDEA where my stock 5th gen springs went

Was wondering if its ok to pair the H&Rs with stock struts up front? The reason I ask is bc some time back I paired the maxspeed springs with stock struts (BIGGEST mistake EVER ). There were times when my car would go over dips in the road and the front would make a huge BANG noise like it bottomed out but at considerable speed.

Will I encounter something similar to this with the H&Rs on stock struts? It would be great if people who had this setup chimed in. I know shiftice.com has a review of this very same setup but Im trying to get a few opinions as well. Thanks in advance

do you know if the spring rates are higher on the H&R vs the maxspeeds? if they are higher, the ride will be worse. check the classifieds for some used oem springs. i lucked out when my pos jics blew, i scored a full 5th gen suspension fully complete for 150 shipped..

also, theres gotta be some locals with oem springs laying around..if i wasnt unemployed i would be at your place today swapping suspensions..lol

This is from housecor after asking him(11-17-09) about his H&R Spring/stock strut setup on his car:

"Yup, still am. Couldn't be happier. The review I posted on my site a few years ago still totally applies. Great setup!"

I am about to get this done soon so will let you know when I get it done...good luck on the demodding process...

hey thanks man. I guess I feel better about it now. Im sure in all this time he has had to deal with all sorts of road conditions and if he says the setup is still good, that's good enough for me!

I cant even begin to explain the maxspeed/stock strut combo. Over dips in the road it sounded like a gunshot when the front end would come down.

I have the H&R's on stock struts all around and have never bottomed out or scraped on anything and I've had them on with 20's and just recently put on some 18's for winter and still no problems. Ride is great but only downside is the front wheel gap of course but since your putting it back to stock it won't matter. Good ride no bounce no scraping. Go for it.

I ran H&R up front on stock struts for some time on stock 17s w/ no issues.

Should be fine for selling, but be sure to disclose the set up to the buyer.

I have been running front h&r springs on stock struts with 235/40/18's for almost 50k miles now (about five years). i never bottom out or scrape or bounce nor have i had to replace stock struts like suggested when i first got this set up. many said would blow my stock struts out. mine are original and im about 400 away from 100k and still no issues. no problems associated with this set up at all. would i like more wheel gap eliminated? of course but not at the expense of all the other ride issues that come with it. for me this set up is perfect because it comes trouble free and really enhanced ride, not hurt it.

kind of unelated but i do some times scrape front if not careful because i have stillen classic kit so my front is pretty low to ground but again its not really a spring problem, just got to be careful.

have you guys ever had situations where you driving at considerable speed and went up an incline (hill-like) on the road? When I had my maxspeeds on stock struts the car would make this loud BANG as the car would settle back down and I attributed that to the maxspeeds being too soft of a spring for stock struts. Im just hoping this isnt the case with h&r's on stocks.

just wanted to ask those who responded about the "scraping" and "bottoming out" part. Are you talking about getting into a steep driveway or something like that with hardly any speed or are you talking about dips in the road where the car slightly lifts up and then settles down at considerable speed?

My main concern is the latter since Im hoping the H&Rs are not that soft of a spring where it would bottom out allowing the undercarriage to scrape the ground....darn Maxspeed/stock strut combo has me all paranoid now

I don't know if you have done the swap yet but I have had the H&R's on now for about 100 miles and so far so good.

The height is really nice, no bottoming out, and a little more rough then full stock setup but can't complain, really nice setup so far....
