Supercharger Question

Is it safe to supercharge an automatic maxima 3.5 without changing to a manual tranny? What about turbo? Idf so is there any way to modify the tranny? Thank you. Just a question that was in my head.

You should be okay...as long as you don't plan on ******* on the car all the time. You'll probably need forged internals before you need to do any major mods to the tranny.

If you're going to be pushing the car a lot, I'd suggest seeing about getting a shift kit from Transgo...

Ummmm last time I checked there was only 1 supercharged fwd VQ35 and it was an altima you might want to do a little more research. But a transgo shift kit and VB mods would prolong the life of your transmision.

Haven't seen an SC'd 5.5 gen and you can't use the Stillen kit that they made for the 2000-2001 because the plate won't work.

He's running 3.0 timing (so are a bunch of other 4.5ers) so you can mount Matty's/Stillen SC plate normally.

If you wanna boost your 5.5 with a full kit, google Speed Force Racing.

Oh yeah, I thought he got rid of that set-up... And I also thought there was a gold 4th Gen on You-tube with a supercharged 3.5 swap... Not sure if that was an Org member.

They did a set-up for a member, I think TORGUS..... Great set-up, but very costly...

Out of curiosity, didn't the S/Ced Altima have a modified charger out of a Grand Prix? I think I remember reading something about it...

We haven't had a plate kit come out for the 5.5 gen (according to matty) because there simply isn't room the way the engine is mounted.

The altima 3.5 kit has an extended drive-shaft that crosses between the valve cover and the rad fans then goes to the supercharger on the right side of the engine bay (back side of the engine). It would be great to see someone make a kit for us that is similar. You would have a plate kit on the front of the engine to hold the S/C drive shaft in place and a mounting kit for the S/C itself on the other side of the engine... Would cost more than the 4th/5th gen kit, but I bet it would sell very well considering the limited options and large amount of 5.5 gens out there.

The reason you see so many 3.5L 4th gen and 5th gen (non 5.5) with Matty's S/C kit is because they did the partial swap with 3.0 timing which means there is no physical difference where the S/C plate mounts so it works just like S/Cing a 3.0

QFT. If you want to supercharge, plan to have your car out of commission for at least a few weeks...
