need advice on problamatic maxima, fix it, sell it part out?

Whats goin on guys,

Before you start reading i want to apologize for the long post i just realized how long this thing is...sorry everyone
Ill start off with some background info:
I bought a 95 SE last summer for $3000 to beat around in.

The car has been nothing but a headache. As of now i think the main problems are all electrical, the headlights, rpm gauge , heat and other interior accessories cut out randomly when driving or they don't come on at first and will randomly come back on. The car will start and drive fine minus those problems but when i turn it off its 50/50 whether it will start again. I am sure there's other problems but i cant think of them off the top of my head.

I would like to sell the car but i don't think i would get much because of the problems it has. Since i bought it i prob put about $1000 into it(suspension, lighting, maintenance)

Its an old car and it was cheap so i don't expect this thing to be perfect but as of now, I am a full time student and i don't have time to deal with its BS problems, i would just like to get back as much as i can so i can purchase a reliable DD.

I am somewhat mechanically inclined but i don't know much about electrical stuff. I am not sure if this is an easy fix or if its something a mechanic will have to do. I would rather not go to a mechanic because i could only imagine how much they would charge to fix this.

Sorry for the rant, i hope i described the problems enough to be understood if not i apologize and just let me know if i can clear anything up.

Some info on the car:

White 1995 SE 5psd 160k (shell does have rust)

DEK Motor-85k-(motor runs strong thank god!l)
Intake
Headers
y-pipe
High-flow cat
Megan B-pipe
Apexi N-1 axle back
Fidanza Flywheel
Competition Stage 4 clutch
SS Clutch Line
B&M short shifter
Mishimoto radiator
Warlboro Fuel Pump
Kyb GR-2s
Eibach Pro Kit springs
Safc
Ugly *** tan interior
Tinted headlights + Tailights
Fairly new alternator+ battery
300zx wheels

Body has rust by passenger side rear door, wheel well/trunk area but other than that there isn't any major imperfections, dents etc.

I would rather sell it, but the problems will keep me from getting what i want and only someone who appreciates all the mods it has would be interested that's why i wonder if id be better off parting it out.

My question is, what would you guys think would be the best way for me to get the most money back out of this car?
- Should i try fixing and selling it, or would i be better of parting it out?

- If i parted it out or sold it how much(estimate) do you think id get back?
-I expect the mods motor and trans to go the quickest..would i get a nice chunk back from just the mods/engine/trans?

Once again Sorry for this long post but you guys are the only ones i know that could point me in the right direction.
Any help/advice/opinions are greatly appreciated

Thanks!
Ray

Try to find some info regarding your electrical issues, some of them are probably easily fixable. I'm sure if you bought an HID kit and wired it directly to the battery using a relay harness your headlight issue would be solved.

Check fuses first, get a copy of the FSM and follow the steps for basic interior troubleshooting. The random tach malfunctioning could be attributed to the SAFC, if it wasn't hooked up properly (seen this with aftermarket RPM switches too) it may lose the tach signal and in turn affect your tach operation. Check heater core/blower motor for your climate control problems?

If you don't wanna deal with it, you could part a good deal of it out, lots of people want headers/exhaust, if the flywheel is in good condition you could sell it too along with the Eibach springs. It may not solve your problem.

If you sell this car you won't get any money at all for it, IMO.

You paid 3000 for a modded car 4th gen with a DEK motor in it. That sounds about right to me bro. If u bought the car with original engine and tranny with over 150k miles, it still would have cost u over 1800 bucks. 1800 bucks only cuz its a 1995. Anything newer wd have cost more. With all the mods 3000 bucks sound about right. Hell, the stage 4 clutch alone cost 500 bucks.

As far as the problems u having w/ the car, they all seem like electrical issues. These are the worst types of issues cuz they so obscure and difficult to isolate and fix. Thats the problem with the 5th gens, if u ask me: too much electrical BS.

Now to your problem,

You have a bunch of mods, prolly too many mods. AND its a five speed. THe only person who gonna buy it is an enthusiasts like yurself before all the problems started. Or prolly was always there due to the swap.

But, the engine got low miles. Look to get about 2000 bucks for it. More if u can fix all the problems. It sounds like a fuse problem or wiring problem to me. All those wires are behind the radio and around the passenger strut tower in the engine bay.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Ill try and get more in deph info on the electrical problems, the headlight and tach both cut out at the same time so I'm assuming its one thing that's causing this?
I'm not really sure how much I could get back but if its close to 2500 I'd be happy with that if not ill see If I can get someone to help me fix it and just sell it.
But for the time being ill do what I can to better diagnose the problem

Thanks!

It could be as simple as a bad ignition switch.

i think the ignition switch is bad too because sometimes ill turn the key off and take it out and the car will keep running and ill stall it and the accessories still stay on...i feel like this things a nightmare sometimes lol...
This weekend im going to spend some time and check out all the wires that i can check out and see if there is anything visible that is wrong.

How much is a dek motor and stock trans worth?

Thanks again for your quick replies

i agree on the switch its a 25 dollar part, easy to do(took me 20 min) and there is a video on here on how to change it out and if it isnt it you can return it even though your not suppose to.... i have in the past

even if you part it out think about how much time you will spend pulling all the parts out and once its all gone you have a frame that youll have to figure out when to do with

you have 4k into it.. parting it out you might get it all back minus your time and i would think its alot of time

i would see about fixing it 1st, switch and adding some grounds tighten some bolts, if that doesnt work then putting it up for sale as is ... see what people offer you and if the money isnt right then part it out

Change the ignition switch and then go from there. Its an easy job (cheap) and some mabey half of your electrical problems will go away.
