An entire car is probably a few thousand depending on the color and whether you want it flat, metallic, pearl, or ect.

I got an estimate for just a fender to be painted factory white and the estimate was near $1000 for just that one part.

if by factory white you mean pearl white, that doesn't surprise me.

I was quoted around $1000 for the hood.

Two years ago I had mine re-painted black and it was $2500. I could have had just the nose done for $800.

Depends where you go/ where you live. Here in very norcal, the only places you got are local body shops and are very expensive. If I drove to LA, it would be 1/3 the price, AKA they have cheaper labor and more competition for paint only shops.

Is it worth it to spend that much on a 14+ year old car with significant rust damage?

depends on the actual car. I thought it was worth it, but there are plenty out there I would not spend the money on.

i went to a shop and they gave me a quote of $180 just for the bumper, so I guess entire body is over $1000

I guess the point I was trying to make is that the car has significant rust on it, so it seems like a drain to put too much money into it. But since I'm not the owner of the vehicle, or his wallet, then I will let him make that call.

well its my project car so HELL YES....its not covered in rust...most of it is just surface rust...but the rocker panels need to be replaced. other than that the rest of my car is great for a car with over 200k miles on it. and i got it for $1600. some ppl buy their project cars for really cheap and spend over 20 grand on them. for me my max is worth evry penny i put in it. am planning a vq35 & 6spd swap too.

You have over 200k Miles. I say just sell it, and get another Max with good paint and lower miles. Just my opinion.

Wow, I didn't realize it had 200k. Don't spend thousands on new paint man. Save that money for a new, or less mileage vehicle. If anything, maybe do a cheap MAACO paint job. For the money you're going to spend on a quality paint job, you could find a cleaner 4th gen with less miles and decent paint. besides, your car doesn't look that bad. See if a shop can touch up the few bad spots and buff out the rest.

yeah i was thinking about that. maybe i'll just have those rocker panels replaced and just have those small rust spots touched up. the paint is still in great shape. as for finding a max (especially a 5 speed)around where i live that's impossible.i had to go all the way to minneapolis to get this one. ppl around here are strictly into muscle unlike in brooklyn where i used to live where u can see maximas everywhere u go. my plan is to have a 4th gen and an rb swapped 240 so right now i want to start working on the max.

Getting cars painted is expensive. I painted my own fender a while ago, and it turned out allright. You can find the paint code and buy the paint, primer and clearcoat online for relatively cheap. I think for al the stuff for the fender a bunch of other little touch ups, it was like $60. This works good for little spots but for a whole car, no way. and even if you do it really good its not as good as a shop paint job.

well my car is otherwise in great shape. the biggest thing is replacing the passenger side rocker panel(the driver side can be repaired) and then fixing some rust bubbles on the rear wheel arches and she'll be good as new. maybe that'll run me about $1000 or so. onec that's out of the way I can concentrate on other stuff like a catback exhaust, headers, cai, lowering springs, strut bar, maybe some murano or 6th gen wheels. I checked out some members' albums and I seen some really dope 4th gens....I cant wait to trick out my whip.

Below are some pics of my car and the rust areas. as you can see the car is in good condition otherwise and it drives great. the motor and tranny runs superb. all I need to do is fix them and she'll be good to go. any ideas how much fixing these will cost? i dont plan on selling it anytime soon...i've only had her for 2 months.
