Run with a 5-speed 300ZX Twin Turbo

So MAX2000JP and I were crusing around last night (I was in his car), and we pull up next to a 300ZX TT at a light, we BSed for a few seconds and found out his car was a 5-speed with AT LEAST exhaust. Anyway, light turns green and Jason takes off. We immediately pulled a car on him out of the light, and it took him til almost 90mph to catch up and pass us. At the top of third gear his rear bumper was at Jason's front door. I thought those things were faster than that?!?!

AND NO IT WASN'T AN N/A 300ZX....he raced one of those a few weeks ago and handed it it's @ss BIG TIME. Jason has just intake a y-pipe right now.

Man for 300hp..that thing sure didn't accelerate like it.

IF I have my car back from the tranny shop (they needed to re-order shims to make the quaife differential fit perfectly)

no mid to high 13's stock..

and the exhaust helps out big time because its a turbo car.. the ones i saw running at the track last sat.. one was running mid 13's.. it was his first time at the track.. the only visible mod was exhaust.. the other one was running mid 12's..

He couldn't drive

Intake-Downpipes-exhaust on at TT-Z would be 40-50HP

Stock TT-Z's run low 14s to mid to high 13s if driven well.

www.ttzd.com and look at the various dyno sheets

Seems like the guy gave you guys a head start by about 1 second or so either that or he has bad RT. Probably explains why it took him to the top of third to pass catch up and pass. This story is believeable.

300ZX TT

Brian, it's either the Chicago maximas are freakishly fast or the 300ZX driver doesn't know how to drive

I just drove a 93 TT that's for sale here at school last week. That things pull like an animal. I doubt a MAxima could keep up.

Yeah, I'm going to agree on that one! It's not so much the car, it's the driver! I wonder why people always think it's the car!

Heheh, I'd race a Ferrari is the driver didn't know how to drive a manual

Good kill Bri & max2000jp.

I swore stock 300ZX TT's were 14's stock. I know basic mods will put them into 13's. If we want some corrected times, we should ask Phuong aka Got Rice? or Paul from Avalon Racing. They both have played wiht 300ZX's.

with the rate at which he was pulling....I'm betting I would have been dead even with him in my max with the 50 shot. he pulled on Jason about as hard as I pull on him when I'm spraying...and I have run 14.0@99....with a HORRIBLE 60' of 2.3

The guy was a decent driver. I think he bogged the launch a little, but it still took him till about 85 to get to my front door. I hit it from a slight roll. I think he had just exhaust and definetly was a 5 speed. I think BriGuyMax would definetly have beaten him on the juice. Speaking of NOS, I think that maybe my next mod now that I have some cash flow

BTW Simon....The car gods on RT.83 dont like Brian that much. Sometimes mysteriously you will see differntial parts laying on the pavement. Locals say its haunted

300ZX TTs are pretty quick, but I think they are rather difficult to launch, just like supras are. They do weigh quite a bit, and they have simultaneously spooling turbos, rather than sequential turbos like the supra, which means they have more lag. I've seen numerous 300ZX TTs at the track. Some were running low 12s, and some were running mid to low 14s. There were like 5 of them at the track that day, and the 2 or 3 that were running in the 14s were hitting 60' times of like 2.4.

Good job on the race Jason.

Do you guys remember what that yellow TTZ ran when we were at Byron? I seem to remember low 14s or high 13s with mods but I'm not sure.

I had a 92 300 ZX TT and have a 97 Maxima and can tell you without a doubt they are not in the same league. Z with exhaust and intake puts out 325HP easy.

I don't think the Z32 TT was even racing at the start. The car would've spanked you by the end of second gear.

He was deffinetly in low 13s, but I though he got into upper 12s by the end of the night.

I don't remember him being that fast. I think he only made a run or two. I seem to remember being pretty dissappointed with his times but maybe I am wrong.

Re: Run with a 5-speed 300ZX Twin Turbo

I saw one today and it was running high 12's and 13's etc those things are very fast and I am sure he wasnt really racing you or he needs a serious tune up. He raced an american drag race car today yeah the american car beat him but not by much.
