00vi Tuning

Okay!

So I am getting an 00vi shipped to me from VQPhantom...now I will also be getting Emanage Blue. First thing is, do I need to get a wideband to tune the afr? If I dont tune the afr but do activate the VIAS will I still get really bad gas mileage?

I really dont understand tuning too well as I am just starting to get into it. My friend with a turbo eclipse said I need a wideband to tune the afr but he may not know about how Maxima's are set up.

Is using EB enough to tune my 00vi? Does the emanage blue let you adjust the rev limiter? Does it let you have a launch control? Like I said I dont understand how tuning works, please don't flame I have been reading about it for hours and hours but cannot figure it out.

yes, you need a wideband. how will you know what your afr is otherwise? thats what the wideband is for, or you can go to a dyno where they use theirs. are you going to use the 5th gen fuel injectors? if so, for now you can probably expect the mileage to get worse.

EB is enough to tune with. But you cannot adjust the rev limiter, or have a launch control. Those features are on the EManage Ultimate. Also, i dont believe you can play with timing either with the EB.

As far as tuning goes, here it is in a nutshell. You have to find out what your afr is at a certain rpm. Depending on what that is, you either take out fuel, or add fuel to get to your target. Ex, if your afr at 5000rpms is 11.5, you take out fuel to get it closer to 13.0afr (or whatever your target is). If its 16.8afr, you add fuel to get it to 13.0. But you need to know what your afrs are....

So would it be better to go with a VAFC?

That depends on what your goals are for the car. If you just want to tune and activate the VIAS, then the VAFC is probably the way to go. If you want to go all out, then you should go with the eManage Ultimate. With that you can do the stuff MaximaSpd85 mentioned.

I would like to go all out with the stuff he mentioned....but seeing how expensive the ultimate is I dont think I can afford that for the budget of the 00vi. Now which would be better to use....the VAFC or emanage blue? Would I beable to tune the blue on my laptop...same deal with the VAFC is it possible to tune on laptops? I will be getting a wideband as well.

Blue > VAFC because you can datalog your AFR, RPM, etc. Yes you can tune Blue on your laptop, you cannot tune VAFC on your laptop.

K I guess the blue will be the best option for me. I think it said there was only 5 preset rpm points you can tune...

There is a 16x16 airflow adjustment map, larger main injector correction adjustment, upgrade air flow meter adjustment, boost limiter cut, anti-engine stall, VTEC-fuel adjustment, real-time map trace, real-time display, real-time communication and basic Data-logging.

emanage blue is WORLDS more capable than VAFC/SAFC. you need the proper add ons to take advantage of the advanced features though. without those add ons you can't do anything more with it than an SAFC can do. to whoever said they don't think it has timing control, you can retard timing with EB just fine, as far as I know only one person has reported being able to directly advance timing with the EB. I have tried it and my car just stalls. not sure what's going on with that. you can still advance timing indirectly with EB, just like with VAFC/SAFC. EU can advance timing directly without any problems.

cars are cars, in order to tune one you have to be able to know the AFR. doesn't matter if it's an eclipse or maxima or Yugo.

edit: clarified something about timing, and fixed some typos

Thank you sir!

I will be getting all the stuff I need now for tuning, and I will read hours and hours of how to do AFR. This 00vi make take a month or two to get everything for it...
