Cylinder Misfire

A friend of mine believes that he might have a cylinder misfire. He was wondering what he should do to rectify this problem. He has a 1996 SE, manual transmission, 80K, and has been putting in 87 octane in his tank. He became aware of the problem when he took his car to replace a knock sensor. The mechanic told him there was a cylinder misfire but was unable to tell him which cylinder it was. I wasn't sure what to tell him so I thought I'd ask the org.

Re: Cylinder Misfire

If there is a misfire, the check engine light should be on. If you run the code it should tell you which cylinder....

Actually, I think the check engine light will begin to flash once an engine misfire has been detected. I remember resetting my ecu and not turning the ignition to off before cranking the car and the cel began to flash, I though I had really screwed something up.

Sounds like it could also be a fuel injector

my brother has a 99 SE-L and just had the coil replaced for a flashing check engine light... but he was getting a code in the ECU also... Funny part is that they first replaced an injector and moved the coils around... the problem followed the coil on which the code was coming from and then they replaced the coil...all is good now.
