URGENT: Keyless entry/alarm not working, help needed

I have a 97 SE with keyless entry and an alarm system and for some reason it hasn't been working today. When I press the lock/unlock buttons nothing happens. I thought the battery in the keyless remote might be out so I replaced it with a new one and still not working. I can open the car with the key but the alarm goes off and the car can't be started unless you shut it off with the remote. Has this happen to anyone before, any quick advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

You may need to reprogram the car to accept the remotes... see FAQs

no luck

I tried reprogramming my remote too but it didn't work. When I insert/remove the key 6 times at first the hazards flash, but when I move the key to the ACC position and press the lock button, nothing happens. I have an aftermarket alarm system, maybe that has something to do with it. I called my dealership today and they said I can buy a new remote (for a 100 and change) and see if it works. I'm trying to get someone to look at the car at my place first since I can't start it. Hope it gets up and running today.

Re: no luck

sHo,

trying check to see if all your wiring are inplace. I had the same
problem and my turned out to be a cut in the wiring that
intermittently connected. Look at all the options before purchasing
a new alarm. You'll find that it was something you could of fixed.

So you have an aftermarket alarm too. I don't think it is the factory alarm causing your car not to start unless the horn and HL flash. If it is, then, pull the fuse in the fuse box. Your car should be able to start up afterwards.

It may also be the aftermarket alarm or the wiring as mikelly stated. But if the aftermarket alarm isn't sounding off, then I don't think it's due to the alarm.
