I just what to share my experiences on how bad it was riding on 235/40/18 tires in the northeast. After replacing tire after tire, from blowout cause from the smallest pot holes to sidewall bubble. The experience was a nightmare!!!

Well now I upgraded to a bigger size, 235/45/18 and let me just say what a dream it is riding on those size tire. Hitting bumps are now a joy. No rubbing at all.

So those looking to add new rubber for the summer. I would recommend a 235/45/18 tire.

 

Actually you lost sidewall but you are back to the correct diameter, the 45 series had a half inch more sidewall.

I believe it also depends on the type of tires being used. Some have really soft sidewalls while others have reinforced sidewalls. Ive ridden on 18's for years. For the majority of the time I rode on 225/40/18's and never had an issue with blown tires or bubbling side walls. Im now on 235/40/18's and the ride is just that much better. I have always used the BFG KDW2 tires which have a pretty stiff sidewall though.

 

How did I lose sidewall? It says I went from 3.7 to 4.2

 

i ride on 235/40/18 and have yet to have any problems...roads here are ****ty as can be too. it is much harsher than the oem wheel/tire though.

 

i had nexens and continental tires in 235/40/18s...never had an issue with them and pot holes...and lord knows i've hit some potholes because i wana be texting and driving LOL

 

no problems with my eagle rs-a. 235/45/18

 

Rocking 225/40/R18 here and have had no problems at all.

 

Maybe I had problems because I'm rolling on Murano wheels.
