oh my god, i broke my MAF, i need one asap. anyone in south jersey???PICS INSIDE!

okay heres what i did, when trying to clean my MAF by myself. i felt pretty confident, because i jus looked at a youtube video showing a HOW TO. but it was on a diff type car, which was where i went wrong. I unplugged the maf plug...which was good....but where it went wrong was unscrewing those 4 screws and trying to force the other side out. i had no idea i had to take out the whole cylender. man i jus ****ed up my car, and all it does is stall out now.

Anyone near bordentown or trenton have a mass air flow sensor for sale???

Wait a min,

It doesnt sound like u broke the wire element inside. Sounds like u only broke the housing or the mounting flange.

YO MAN, if thats the case and the wire element is still good, get some gray tape and tape the hell outta that sucker and re-install CAREFULLY. Then apply more tape.

The only thin that matter is the wire element and the wire harness. If that all good, FIND a way to re-install. MAke it Work MAN!!

Mine ran with an unplugged maf to 2500, so you can pretty much get wherever you need to go, even up to about 60mph or so, just not very fast. Might be something else if it just stalls.

Check for an air leak

It looks like maybe you could bend the tabs straighter reach in with a soldering iron and resolder then screw it back together but yeah, new or a junkyard would probably be easier.

I've seen people pry the square black top off of the MAF but unscrewing the connector and pulling it off is a first.. for me anyways.

Sorry you had to be the one.

lol i found that sorta hilarious. this might be sig worthy. well i was sort of confused because there were screws there, and i was on youtube and the video told me to unscrew the MAF, but it was on a diff type of MAF, the removable ones. Yeah im a dumbass...ya live ya learn.

don't feel bad. i took those screws right off too. luckily i guess when i put it back together it still worked. I guess they just lined up. whoever has the authority may want to add a disclaimer to the sticky for dummies because a real dummy like me, when only told "clean MAF", is gonna think, hmmm, these screws must come off to get it nice and clean...

i'd post a pic JUST like yours that I took to ask about, my thumb is in it just like yours and everything.. except i was outside! I'm wondering if I should just buy a new one anyway or just see what happens.

I did the same thing too. Makes me feel a little less stupid.....i think. but i work with people who solder all day, you think if i get them to re-solder the metal prongs it will be good as new?

All you can do is try it right? If it's free, that's a no brainer.

Line up the contacts and screw it back in. You may have to bend the pins on the connector up a bit so they will reach the little prongs inside. I didn't have any driveability problems after repairing my maf that way.

Or if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can trim the prongs on the back of the connector and solder wires to the corresponding connections. I haven't done this, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Yeah mine is like that I have no welds left and I drive it everyday without fail. What i did to fix it (OR JUST BUY ME SOME TIME)

Redneck Repair is...

Bend the 3 prongs slightly... VERY SLIGHTLY BARELY NOTICEABLE so that they leaned up against the contacts in there so they get at least a decent connection in there.
Make sure you get that grease off them first the metal has to be able to conduct electricity. Those 3 prongs are how the MAF gets power !

Do you know how to solder?? When you get some time solder those prongs back onto the contacts and save yourself some money.
Thats what im doing and my pocket will love me for it :]
