Painting headlights and engine cover. Who also did it?

Me and my buddy are painting the inside of my headlights black and my engine cover, too. Just wanted to see who else did one or the other and how it came out. Post pics of result!

I will post pics when I get it done.

Wow, they have some really cool ones in there. I am doing something similar to the two-tone ones in there. White and black with red NISSAN lettering.

I'll do that. Had any problems taking the headlight apart?

Wow, that looks slick. I really like the gloss. I was hoping someone would show one in gloss. I think I might do mine in gloss too. Mine will be similar to yours, just half of it will be white and the letters are going to be white, not silver. Also thought about painting the burger white, due to the chrome now flaking off. You silver burger doesn't look bad at all. Glad I seen yours, you most likely helped me decide.

thanks. i peeled off the chrome because we all know how nasty looking it gets over time. there is a very easy trick to paint the letters and numbers also the same with painting the letters in the burger. pm me for details

Mine was actually Krylon Fusion flat black. It comes out fairly shiny though, as I had learned from previous experience. I had some leftover so I put it to good use

Cool. Looks good. We just got through putting the first coat of black on the cover and headlights. Tommorow morning, we will put maybe another coat of black if needed, and put a coat of white on the cover. Almost done!

What about painting other parts?

I want to paint the shroud that covers the clock on the dash, Paint wont stick or cover right for some reason. I did a light sanding, but it still bubbles or leaves lil imperfections. any one painted their dash parts and like the results?

I have the same desire. Both my clock and stereo trims are chipped and just wanted to make them flat black. Now that you have mentioned that paint wont stick...that's not good. Have you tried primer?

This. Kind of... not sure what I think. Creative, but a bit much.

Here's a link to his page: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/668322
- Scroll down, he's got more picts of his engine cover.

if you guys want to paint trin inside your car you are going to have to be very patient. any sandable primer will do. i tend to use just flat black. do like 6 or 7 light mist coats over it allowing 5 minutes in between each coat. i know most just like to paint a couple heavy coats but for the paint to stick you need good adheason. the light coats allows the paint to stick to the surface allowing you to come back and apple heavier coats. fron there apply the color you want. valspar makes a great flat black and a flat clear to protect it and yes it stays flat black!! you can find valspar at anw lows or home depo

luvlexus101, I was going to, but the orange LED bulbs I ordered were not as good and bright as I was hoping, so I decided not to clear them out. Plus I didn't want any heat from the po's.

And yes, pepox, I definatly need to! Lol. I was telling my buddy that when we put in back on my car that I reallllyyy need to clean it. At least it makes the cover pop more, lol.

That looks real nice, BLACKKILA.GTR. I like the blue and black texture look. You picked up a 6th gen cover? It looks like thats what it is. Good job, bro.

I painted my engine cover for my 2000 this past winter.

I forget which paint company I used but the finish gives a "hammered" look.

The silver paint got under my taped off areas. Used a sharpie to outline the letters and to cover the silver. HACK I know, but I didn't care much.

Stupid question, but did you guys have to sand the engine cover down before you painted it? If so, with what grit(s)?

I wet sanded mine down with 400 grit. then washed it with soap then dried. Painted it all up and then finish coated with a heat resistant clear finish.
