Installing amp and sub without changing the radio- using a spliced RCA wire

Check out the link below. It is from a Mazda forum. They basically use a single male to double female RCA wire... splice it and wire it up to the stock 8" sub on the rear deck of a Mazda 6.

Can't we do something similar like this with our Maxima's as well?
I did it on my Mazda 6 and it worked perfectly. Sound quality was fine. I actually still have that spliced RCA wire and was wondering if anyone knows which wires I could possibly connect it to on a 04 Maxima.

Here is the link with pics (scroll down for splicing part)

Its been done before. I had it done a long time ago. I can tell you that with the Bose woofers on the rear deck and the sub. The sound was terrible! I think both bose and the aftermarket sub were clashing together making terrible base. There was one member who replaced the deck woofers with after market woofers and a amp.

I used a line out converter for my 10" arc and has always sounded perfect.

I use a line out converter sounds fine but that was before I got the ipod NIS module and noticed the factory line out converter. When I have extra time I will probably pop that thing in there just cause it is a lot cleaner of a install.I think its worth the money.

I think he was talking about hooking up the line out converter to the factory sub so he can get nothing but lows going to his aftermarket sub.

to add a little more bass? if you hear my setup you would stop laughing. not top of the line, expensive setup, but simply adding a 10", plenty good for me.

Ahh I must have misunderstood his post! Even still buy a line converter makes it a bit easier!

lol Of course after market subs with after market amp will push more bass. That putrid bose system pushes out about 250 watts max? I even doubt that as the amp is so damn small. I used to run two 12s myself but now going to run single 12 on Kenwood true 600 watt amp. I just misunderstood what he was trying to say!

Even so I would cut out the stock sub as the aftermarket sub will over power the bass over the stock anyways!

I’m running a Small Aftermarket amp with a 10” Kicker Sub.
Using the “Splice” RCA’s Hookup & Factory Power Wire & New Ground Wire….
Works Just Fine….. For About 1-Year Now.....
Changed the Factory amp and Sub because it kept Cutting Out.
NOW when I roll down the windows I can still here the Bass….
Nothing Spectacular ((But it gets the JOB Dun))….
I Can Provide a Picture of the Spliced RCA if Needed!!!!

What amp?

Sounds like it's a good set up. I am getting rid of the bose set up myself. I have an Alpine CDA 7995, but since it doesn't have an internal amp I am going to use JL E4300 4ch. For the sub, I have Alpine Type R 1422D 12" ran by Kenwood Excelon KAC X-201T. Should sound decent! I really can't stand Bose but it is doing alright for now.....

stock bose 8 speaker (2- 8"s in rear deck)

plus 10" Arc by Foose in a Q-Logic bandpass driven by a pioneer. dont remember which one, but is 800 max.

already had the box. and have it setup against my driver backseat so i can fit my snowboard and gear. firing up and ports facing the rear. amp is mounted to the box for quick removal.

i know there's way better options, but for me to spend the money and replace a system i'm happy with for 6 years makes no sense to me. don't want any more bass, highs are plenty. Mostly use Sirius. rarely CDs, which are almost as good quality. otherwise my ipod on rare occasion, which is a lower quality since compressed anyway.

edit for wiring.
simply ran power to the battery. otherwise, ground is under the rear seat. remote is spliced to bose oem rear amp, and line out converter splice from driver side bose sub to amp RCAs. easy. have the gain at center, headunit at +2 bass and reduce to -5 to cut off all bass.

It is just a Dual Amp ($80 at Crutchfiled), Bridged the Channels,
About 100 watts RMS....
It is a LOT louder than the Bose 8"...
But it did Not take a Lot to be Louder than the Factory!!!!!

No need to buy a new head unit or special wites for amp and sub install. I hooked my amp and subs to my 99 max stock bose head unit. All I did was some simple splicing. For the amp all you have to do is set up the 12 B+ to the battery and and the Ground to a bolt In trunk. For the amps REM wire i spliced it to the stock bose head units amp TURN ON SIGNAL WIRE. The only thing now that is needed is the RCA input wires. Since the stock bose HU Doesn't have RCA jacks, I had to modify my RCA wires and splice them to my rear speakers. So I cut the RCA wires in half and split the L and R wires so that I would have two separate wires now . Now that I have 2 separate wire
