So I took my car to the shop bc it was stalling at red lights. They cleaned the MAF and it is much better, but still stalls every once and while.

I want to buy a new MAF and I understand that I should get the 00-01 for durability and price.

Do I need to get one with the housing or just the sensor?
Is this what I am looking for? If not can somebody point me in the right direction.

Also, I read that I need to swap the IAT resistor. I dont understand what this is. Is it the little metal wire on the MAF? If my MAF is damaged do I need to buy a new IAT resistor for the 00-01 MAF?

Thanks in advance for you help, I searched this but can't find a clear answer so I hope somebody else has done this swap and can explain it better for me.

 

Hey, glad to hear you at least figured out what was wrong after that huge string of bad luck. I'll have to come up to the strip in Calgary one of these days... IF I can get my tranny working right. I'm replacing my solenoid pack to try to fix the 1-2 flare/slip... If that doesn't work I'll have to get a used tranny sometime. This is soooo annoying! With the money I've spent trying to diagnose the problem and on the solenoid pack, I could have bought a VAFC II and LC-1 wideband!!! Gah. Car problems can be so frustrating!

 

All I know is my Maxima had the same problem and I just bought the MAF sensor (w/o housing) and replaced it myself. It solved my stalling issue and my fuel efficiency has increased a lot. But I've heard from some sources that it needs to be taken to a dealer to reset the ECM which I haven't done. Idk about the resistor but I hope I've helped a bit.

 

^^^was it new? as far as I know you can only get it with the tube, thats just how it comes, at least if its new

 

Nah, DaveB. will sell you just the sensor for 90$ or so brand new. I believe NAPA also sells this only as a sensor, no housing.

 

Buy sensor only, swap resistor, re-insert into existing housing, enjoy new performance. (if this was indeed the problem)

 

I'm waiting on my new MAF. I might replace the entire housing so I can have a clean MAF Housing Screen Call me picky, and I know it's probably not so dirty as to be hindering airflow, but every little bit helps! I think it'd bug me knowing I have a clean screen sitting there and not installing it when it's really not that difficult.

Not only will it not be bad, but it will probably look exactly the same as new.

It's not worth for even 5 minutes to change out the MAF tube, but do whatever fits your fancy.

 

Even with my stock MAF, I descreened it, even with my 4th gen.

 

Yeah.. I don't think I'll do that cuz I'm running a GAB'd intake. And if somehow the filter came loose, I'd want that screen there...
