Rear Bose blown...500 dollars???
Hey guys,
I'm a little hectic right now. I blew one of my rear BOSE speakers in the 96, and called the dealership to see what a new one runs...they're trying to tell me..500 dollars?? Seriously? I got a front replacement once, didn't end up needing it, but it was like 32 dollars...
Sounds like someone is making an error..I hope?

What is wrong with the speaker exactly? Does it just not work? Is the surround broken?
@ajm -
It's just blown. If you look up from in the trunk you can see it's been torn apart lol.
well u can just buy a headunit and run speaker wire and even if you buy some walmart pioneers for like $40 a set itll sound alot better than the bose our cars have. Yes it might be bose but..... its made out of paper and its 10yrs old. New hu: $150, new Speakers: $50x2, roll of monster wire: $15, dash kit for hu: $20, total: $285 and about a days work for a noobe or couple hrs if you have experience.....
and you'll open the door for your lows in the future!

You can have speakers re-coned. I've never had it done so I'm not sure of the costs. You could also try to replace only the driver itself, and not the whole assembly including the amp. You would have to find one that is the same size and impedance as the stock driver, with similar construction. This is probably not as hard as it sounds, as speakers come in standard sizes (6, 8, 10 inches, etc.) And its a woofer, so keep that in mind.
jesus dudes, lets get real here. i replaced my blose system 3 years ago and am happy i did. i liked it alot, but its was just a cd player and am/fm with a crappy cassette. i have sirius with ipod and am/fm and cd. all jl's with a 450 watt jl 6 channel amp. so much better than the stock radio, it cost a few bucks but well worth it.
For 500$ You could wrap your car in Dynamat and JL speakers!!
Oh and screw all the haters on the BlOwSE. They may not be super expensive or as clear as speakers twice the price (junkyard prices/forum prices) but their amplified by themselves, cheap to replace, and with the right setup (LOW LEVEL INPUTS AT 4 VOLTS!!!!!!) They sound terrific.
My car, perfect example. Running a Pioneer F700BT with a Audiopipe Line driver that ramps the voltage up to 4 Volts. The combination of the awesome head unit with a High pass filter of 125 Hz (so no lower level freq's hit) and the 4 Volts input makes for a great listening experience.
Oh and just to dispell people who claim they use awesome 600$ Alpine stereo's and say it still sounds awful, Try using THE LOW LEVEL OUTPUTS #$%*@^%!!!!!!!!!
High level power (wattage at a ohm rating) is Not the same! a high level signal to Low level inputs? Yeah Not the same thing.
And just to stop people from jumping to the conclusion that i dropped an azz load of cash on my system, your wrong. The Audio pipe line driver by itself is all it took to get my system sounding good. Cost? 20$ USD on Ebay.
Anyone with a Rear/Front output from their headunit can accomplish this. All you need to do is exactly what i did, 4V preouts to all the speakers. This is considering even those super expensive Alpine's usually only put out 1-2.5 volts Preout signal..
need more info? search the audio part of the forum, just search for my name and posts.
Like i said 20 Bucks.
Thank You.

I mean, have you checked to see if sound is coming from it? Prob just completely disconnected itself so there is no signal going to the magnet.

Max ride, I understand where you and all the other people in this forum are saying in changing the whole system but it depends on where you live and how is your car parked. This guy may be living in a city and parking his car out on the streets. You don't want to put in such a system and have it sitting on the streets for your ride to get jacked. My friend had a 92 Camry mind you and his original radio was on its last leg and only 1 speaker in the car was functioning. When he changed the HU and purchased a $100 Sony unit, within two weeks, the radio was taken in broad daylight in front of a store and no one saw nothing and alarm was going off...
It have people out there just like me that just want to keep the stock radio because you know that someone will not jack you for an "OEM piece of crap"
Time for you to hit up best buy. I would never pay that much to replace speakers.
edit: I have an aftermarket radio and when ever I park on the street or parking lot, I also take it out and put it in the glove box.

Get some real speakers Bose is cool in a Benz or BMW big bodys those sound real good but the Maxima not really mine blew the one with the Sub in the middle in the rear took it out threw a 12'' Fosgate P3 to replace and fosgate speakers for the doors sounds way better so go after market cause the Bose in a Maxima is not the best out there even for the price!!

Well, I think most of you will be happy to hear I am now around 400 dollars in credit card debt...Hahaha. (No I'm not a dirtball)
Rather than drop so much money on a speaker/find an old one that's just as likely to blow.. I just replaced everything with 4 Kenwood Excelon's. Pretty good quality speakers, definitely a big difference in High/Mids. Almost as much punch as the BOSE too. And just hooked up to a mediocre Kenwood deck. I just need to drop a sub in and it'll sound pretty nice.

But..my amp wasn't broken, my speaker was blown lol.

Anyways..anyone needs I'm sellin 2 front bose speakers
but i'll post a thread in the right spot later
Stay with the BOSE if you want to. Dearlership is alwys expensive. Look somewhere else.
My BOSE in my 08 is great when cranked up. As for my 08 M35, the BOSE ouput is a little better than in my 08 Max.
But I have noticed that when I use my sd memory card (with my mp3 songs on it) in my garmin gps and connect it to the aux output to use my BOSE speakers, the output is EXCELENT! Same too for using my ipod in the M35, output is even better.
