"Hardwire" 98 SE passenger side Airbag to Diagnostic Module to stop Flashing light?
I just spent an entire weekend diagnosing and getting rid of the famous 98 Maxima passenger side airbag induced Flashing Airbag light.
I really appreciate the knowldege gained from this site!
This site helped me to pull the airbag flashing computer code without going to the dealer and paying $200 bucks.
It was 2-1-1 , for side airbag.
I removed the seat from the car so I could get the rear seat panel off carefully and get to the side airbag. I also removed the center console. Both of these steps can really damage some delicate trim!
I traced all the wiring and connectors from the passenger side Airbag to the Diagnostic ECU. Some of the pins on those connectors are very tiny and I can see why the circuit loses connnectivity. After dissconnecting and reconnecting everything back in, the annoying flashing airbag light went out!
To prevent this reoccurrence--I mean who wants to do this everytime the light comes back-- I was considering running a redundant pair of wires right from the side airbag connector to the diagnostic computer connector with high grade electronic wire (16 or 18 guage?) and soldering the joints.
Is this a feasible idea? Thanks for all the help I have gottrn from this site!

Running those wires would not be useful. Mine goes on occasionally. I just reset it. Sometimes I have to remove the connector under the seat and connect it back up as part of resetting it. I know the connectors and wiring is thin but I really doubt that adding thicker wire will help.
Although tiny, the connectors are good quality and probably not causing the problem. I mean it is possible but not very likely. I just think the system is fairly sensitive and a number of things including the wiring, airbag or airbag module or number of connections could be causing the error. If the problem only occurs occasionally your best bet is to just reset it and unplug/plug the connector as I mentioned earlier. If you want to change the wiring and connector there is a possiblity that it will will fix the problem. But there is also a possibility that you could create a problem.
