trading in car, what does dealers look for?

Hey everyone, I'm might be in the process of trading in my '98 GXE for a SE-R spec V, if my loan gets approved. But anyways, I'm wondering, what does the dealers usually look at when they appraise the car. Do they actually go out and take a spin and check for things? Or do they just check the basics, body damage, paint, interior, etc. Cause I looked up my car at KBB and with the description I gave them, it said a trade in value of about $11,500. I have a minor dent on the door and a few dings and scratches, but the paint is still glossy and the car is also lowered. So in the option at Kelly Blue Book, I said that the car had altered or worn shocks. I have about 43,000 miles. Other than those dings and stuff, the car is perfect, just the usual rattling noise in the car, not too many though. And the interior is mint. And brakes are a little squeeky. Well, just want to get your options. And knownledge about trade-in's. Thanks.

well the dealer will always low ball you , so remember that. But if your car is lowered that not good, they always give you less if your car has stuff on it. They also look at the options you have and how many miles.

Here's a good site on buying a car:

http://www.carbuyingtips.com/

and a section on trading in your used car ( or selling it ):

http://www.carbuyingtips.com/sellused.htm

I know it doesn't specifically say what they look for, but it may help you in the long run.

Otherwise, there's some useful info on the sight...

Good luck!

Hmm, oh well. I'm trying to sell my car, thats my first way to go, but if no one buys it. My last resort is to trade it in. I'm going to see if the dealers say anything about the car being lowered. We'll see how everything goes. But more importantly is that I have to get approved for the loan first. I should know by today. I'm only 20, and dont have a extensive credit history, thats why other places like eLoan.com and peoplefirst.com turned my down. Thats why I went to my own bank to see. Yep, well I'll see.
