1/4 mile times

Okay so I went to track yesterday. I mostly run 1/8 mile but this time I ran 1/4 mile. I just don't like the idea of running 1/4 mile. But I went anyway. Results weren't too good for me.

2 runs
1 run- 2.3 60ft, 9.4@78 1/8, 14.6@96 1/4
2 run- 2.3 60ft, 9.4@78 1/8, 14.4@96 1/4

For as many mods I have on the car I'm very disappointed in results. Surely was thinking high 13's or 14.1 or 14 flat. I do have CEL for oil leaking in coilpack 6 because I had crack in my rear valve cover. I got the 6th gen valve cover and installed it. Thought it would solve my problem. May be thats the problem or I didn't let my car cool down enough. Drove 2 hours to get to track.

I don't bother going to the track when it's hot because my times suffer miserably...as much as .5 in the 1/4.
It looks like you're in Alabama so the humidity will also hurt.
Your 60' time could use some improvement but not bad times at all.

And yes, you should leave the hood opened to cool the engine down for at least an hour before running.

I hate the 1/8! You can barely get launched before you have to shut it down.

I lose as much as a full second in hot and humid weather compared to a sub 1000 DA.

I dunno about barely getting launched... I get all the way to about 6900 RPMs in 3rd gear, the 1/4 is just 1 more gear shift.

Good runs for alabama during the summer, don't get discouraged... Go back in november/december while the track is still open and get a 60 degree day with a low DA, I bet you can see your 13s with a slightly better '60.

9.1 is like a 14.2-14.3. your other mods since then aren't gonna gain you a whole helluva lot, but obviously 2.3s are unacceptable for someone with any amount of experience at the track, and the DAs down there were pretty bad too.

I use to pull 2.1 60fter all the time. Ever since I added all those mods I just can't do it. I barely see 2.2 60ft. I think I might need new pairs of tires. These tires aren't cutting it like new when I got them. Although I really think I would've gotten better times around like 14.1 or 14.2 with more tries. I have never taken this car to 1/4 mile track.

I got 9.11@79 when I had the 2.1 60ft. and weather was like under 60 degrees. Ever since I saw those numbers I always wanted to see my car in 8's lol. I just need to replace my coil pack and try it again. I might get it in 8's even in hot weather like this.

dude a 2.3 60ft???

that's your problem. stop beating yourself up already. drop your 60ft to at least a 2.0 (or a 1.9 if you can get some drags) and you'll see your low 14, high 13.
and as the others pointed out, stop racing in the heat and humidity. also invest in an ice chest. putting a pack of ice on top of the manifold between runs does help.

lol @ 5ltr. Anyway I discovered today that my a/f ratio was jacked up when I went racing other day. I was running so rich. It was @ 10.0-10.1 through the whole band. Pissed me off, going again track to see what is the real deal now. Hopefully I'll dip in 8's in 1/8 mile.

^^^ this... these arent really good conditions to see great times you know, plus the 60' needs a tad bit of improvement

To me it should be in 13's even in hot weather. I know my car is capable of with all the bolt on's I got. But I really think I need better tunning device like EU. So I can raise the rev limiter, advance my times, and do the 2 step launch (always wanted this), and much more.

Hustle you manage to pull 13.7 in 1/4 mile and I have 6 speed and better bolt ons(I THINK).

Very much possible with right tires and weather. I use to pull 2.1 60ft all the time when I first got my tires. Now it just 2.2 or 2.3.

I didn't mean it like that. I meant to say more bolt on's than you do.

that can be done but it's pretty hard to do. not many people have done it in maximas, but a few have.

No offense taken bro man...... you probebly do have more mods than me, I still need to get spacers and a pulley and my intake setup... but look at my times, our major difference is the 60' I had an extremely better launch (given the auto trans) than your 2.3 you could be robbing yourself about .4 second just in the 60' plus the temp... keep at it, you will get there, my first run in the 5.5 auto was a 18.1

true, even as an auto which is suppose to be more consistent I find it quite the task to break a 2.0 60'

Track conditions and practice are the biggest factors in pulling those 2.0s on street tires. The first 2.0s I pulled were on Potenzas that were worn past the tread blocks and most recently I've pulled 2.0s on several occasions with my general exclaim UHPs. Believe it or not, those bald tires of yours will probably hook better than brand new ones at the track.

My best 60's in my 4th gen were with bald tires.

Makes sense, larger contact patch.

Hey, did you ever get your trans fixed? Finally fixed mine. Needed a new 2nd gear, 2nd gear synchro, and 3rd gear synchro.

Wasn't cheap lol

U don't need all that B.S to get your car to run. Fix what u have first then get all the extra stuff. That's the problem I'm starting to see with a lot of maximas owners. They always wanna buy a ton of things but not fix the little problems that they are having and wonder why their cars has 40 more mods than the other car but runs a second slower.

Fix your car. Tune it with a afc and stop wasting your time running in the heat. I promise u that your car will run 10 times better.

2.1s are a lot different than 2.0s. 2.1s are really good, 2.0s are exceptional. i've been to the track probably 75 times in my maxima (I've got more than 550 timeslips, haven't counted them exactly in the last few years though) and I pull 2.1s virtually every single time I am at the track except perhaps a few that I only got a couple runs in or had bad track prep or a bad day. So probably 70 out of the 75 times that I've been at the track I've pulled 2.1s. I've pulled 2.0s on like 3 or 4 trips to the track.

For me anyways, 2.15 is about as good as I can consistently and realistically expect every time I go to the track on street tires. 2.0s on street tires are a rarity for me, and when I get them they are a treat, but I can't really count on them. talking about street tires here of course.

Was in ATL today and I picked up EU for 300 with all the harness. Guy I picked it up from got some crazy a$$ cars. He is currently working on 240 with 2JZ. I should have taken some pictures.
