Hey all,

I'm trying to get rid of all my engine codes and so far so good.Except now im in a pickle. I have this code P1605 due to my Auto to 5 Speed swap. I was wondering if it can be fooled by a resistor or something.Below is what I grabbed form the sticky.

Diagnostic Trouble Code 0804 is detected when the signal from the Transmission Control Module is not sent to the Engine Control Module. The factory service manual identifies these possible causes:
- Harness or connectors (the communications line circuit between ECM and TCM is open or shorted.)
- TCM
- Weak or dead battery

 

I'm sure that diagnostic line probably communicates in some sort of binary serial protocol, so a resistor is not going to cut it. If you want to run code free after a 5 speed swap, I'm pretty sure you need an ECU from a manual car with the same emissions equipment as your chassis has.

 

your probably right,i'll fix my other codes and look for another ecu thats ment for a 5-speed

 

Before I purchase a 1998 5 Speed Manual ECU is the ECU the exact same when it comes to an SE, GLE, ES? and I guess I need a Fed spec as Cali ( I live in Canada guess it just FED) have more emission crap? Just trying to make sure I get the right one.

My Maxima is a 1998 GLE, fully loaded. Though I don't have any badges saying what it is >_<. I'll look under the hood and see.

 

Use the FSM to decode your VIN to figure out exactly what you have. However, I think as long as you match the year, emissions spec (FED or Cali) and transmission type (auto or manual) you should be fine.

That's exactly what I did. I found myself a 1997 Fed Spec manual ECU and plopped it into my five speed swap and have had no problems with the CEL.
