I replaced my spark plugs with Bosch Platinum +2's. When I turn the car on, I feel some shaking and sputtering. When I drive it, it has no power at all. I floored the gas pedal and it slooowwly accelerated. WTF is going on? I double checked to make sure I connected all the sensors already. Help!!!

 

bosch plugs arent good for our car , you should replace them with NGK and you should be good to go

 

 

idk if bosch spark plugs will cause damage to our cars...i just know they're good for german cars n not japs....first thing to do, definitely try NGK platinums and see if it solves ur problem

No and yes. They shouldnt do damage. NGK is OEM for our cars and its been documented many times that Bosch dont run for **** in the VQ.

Yes, my SES light is on but it's been on for a while due to an EGR valve issue.

 

Change the plugs and try again. Might have been a difference between resistor/non-resistor or something. Possibly cooked the coils. Hard to say without knowing all the details. What part# were the Bisches?

 

yes change the spark plugs and reset the ecu to get rid of the codes...
my brother's Lexus ES was being like that recently...wen't on ahead to change the spark plugs n 3 of them had oil on 'em due to bad seals....replaced the seals n spark plugs n it started running like new again...don't knw if yew have da same problem but yew should check anyway

find out what other codes is da car throwin at yew

No problem I don't mean to be grammar ploice, I just dont like to read posts where I gotta translate ghetto slang. You have a good point, if the tube seals are bad that'll soften up the plug boots and then replacing the plugs can cause a break in the insulation (boot).

 

Bosch plugs are absolute garbage for VQ's, I learned the hard way like you. Switch back to NGK coppers and you should be fine. All your problems will most likely be solved.

 

Those Bosch plugs are crap for any car. NGK or Denso will be much better. I have NGK coppers because they are cheap, copper is a superior conductor, and I don't mind changing plugs every 30k since I don't drive that often.

 

unless oil is in the chambers, in which case, order a VIM and call it a day like I did. (after you fix valve cover gaskets and seals of course.)

 

i been running NGK platinums runs great, but i just changed out old ones that had 30k miles on them and put new ones and i lost a lot of power myself, but i think its because dumb *** at autozone said i have to gap them even know their platinum tip and i ruined like 3 before i gave up and just put them in.

 

thanks for the replies fellas. I am returning the Bosch plugs and buying NGK plugs. But, when I removed the plugs, one of them had oil on it. Is this a problem?? None of the other plugs had oil. Any ideas?

Yes, that is a problem as your spark plug grommets inside your valve cover is no good. Gotta replace those along with your valve cover gasket. Travis, yeah that was a dumb move on their part as they are already gapped. I bought the NGK Iridiums and just place it in..

 

I don't know if the spark plugs would do that because honestly I had my car brand new with 30 miles on it and a year after I bought I have use ONLY Bosch and I never had a problem ! know i think when you removed the spark plugs you might of moved or unplung something ! check everything and back track what you have done , maybe something else when bad and it jut happen that it happen when you replaced the spark plugs .Check the wires to the coils . hope this helps

 

Save the money and get NGK copper (2$ each) ,you can never tell the performance difference from the plat.
And you MIGHT have another problem with the acceleration (apart from the brand issue)...NGK should work better,but Bosch shouldn't (not work) at all !!

 

TO FIX:

Pull off all intake parts, and upper intake manifold, remove egr tube from UIM.
Order parts:
3x oil seal
1x rear valve gasket
1x TB gasket
1x IACV gasket
1x Upper manifold gasket
1x EGR gasket


This would be a good time to do a VIM swap like I did, also, get the 3 seals because you can just replace them all at once, its easy. Having oil in the sparkplug chamber is bad, once the old plug is pulled, the oil goes into the chamber and fouls the new plug, also, the oil blocks the power to the plug where it meets the coil, which could explain your poor performance because of a miss.
