CEL in my 96 maxima

Hey guys and gals, In the process of getting my maxima on the road and getting really close. Just finished up putting a new muffler on it and thought I was ready to put it on the road other than gettting the alignment done when I noticed my cel had come on. Ive had the car in my garage for about 6 months and now all of a sudden it came on! So at any rate I pulled the codes. I have a p0325 knock sensor problem bank one and a P0446 evap vent solenoid. After reading the "if your cel light is on read here first" thread (great thread btw) and searching through the org to see what others have some across I have come to a couple of conclusions that I believe to be correct. Please correct me if Im wrong as I want to get this car on the road soon!!!

1) The knock sensor code may not actually be a problem...fix the vent solenoid code first, clear codes, and then see if it returns. If it does return after the vent solenoid code is repaired I will probably need a ks.

2) It is probably a problem with the vent solenoid at the rear of the d/s of the car. I should remove it and see if it can be cleaned. If it can't be cleaned it will need to be replaced. The troubleshooter on my solus took me to checking the voltage of it key on engine off. It was a 3.28 v if I remember correctly, and I believe the spec was 3.3-3.46v or somewhere in that range.

So please correct me if I am wrong or if you recommend anything else.

thanks and looking forward to getting my car done!!!

ps, if I need a vent solenoid anybody have one in useable shape? pm me.

Also getting P0446. Pulled the solenoid and bench tested it and it worked fine w 12V on it. Are you saying that the voltage at the plug is only supposed to be 3.3 to 3.46V??

Im not 100% sure. I was extremely tired when I was looking at the troubleshooter in my solus. I will take a look at it the next couple of days. I remember the spec being somewhere in that range, heck I was so tired it may have been ohms. lol

somebody, anybody agree or disagree with what Ive come up with? And bobflood, I think that voltage is what the solenoid puts out and shows to the PCM. I still have to get my solus back on my car to check, and with how this week is panning out it won't be until next week.

I don't know about the voltage, but I THINK that's the code I got a few weeks back. The valve comes off nice and easy, and it has a little plunger inside that sticks. I just sprayed some Aero Kroil inside it and worked the plunger with a small screwdriver until it popped back up freely. There's a good video about it on youtube. That took care of my code. An easy fix, if that's what it turns out to be.

I also got the KS code, but I just assumed it was bad and replaced it. If the vent gets fixed, you might find that the KS code goes away.
