Reason why 4th gen maximas are being stolen at least from what I know

Ny is messed up and I hate it period. The guy that live on the block said when my car first came on the block it had everything on it just a broken window with stolen headlights and he reported it stolen several times and the cops told him they don't investigate stolen cars pass a certain amount of years. Wonder why people hate cops. If they would of did their job, I would of got my car back in one piece with stolen headlights which I wanted ceifeiros anyway. The person stole it for a joyride and left it there and ova time people came and stole whatever they wanted. Don't worry i'm writing a complaint. All cars there were fine just they way they were with stolen headlights. So if you got R34's, that's the only thing this guy or people is after which I have no idea why. To me they are cheap played out and everyone has them, personally I'll rather go after ceifeiro's.

you could go buy cefiro headlights and get your car stolen for cefiro headlights as well. cops are gay anyway...they didnt care to investigate when my car is stolen, yet when i got my new car(max), doing everything legal i got pulled more in 2 months than i did when i had my integra. instead of harassing me, find my car/who stole it

Naw man cops dont do anything. These days with all the cutbacks in the govt u gotta do everything urself.

Get a car alarm. Either Viper or Autopage rf350. I got autopage and its good man. Someone broke into my car and took all my ****. Right in front of my house. Now man i got the alarm. AT LEAST, if someone else tries to steal it, the alarm will go off and u will know about it and u can go outside and do something about it!!! Its the worst feelin in the world to have some p***y a** b***h come in the middle of the night and steal your stuff. I WISH ppl like that would be upfront and steal stuff in your face. But life cant be that rewarding .

Get an alarm man. Its worth it.

You gotta try to deter thieves somehow. I'm barely in the city so luckily I've never had anything bad happen to my car but when I do leave it there (especially overnight), I have things to deter thieves. I know there are ways around these things and if a thief really wants my car or a specific part they'll take it but if they see these things maybe the thief thinks twice and doesn't want to take the chance of breaking into my car.

Alarm or not car can be stolen either way. Best thing is kill switch, clutch lock and lowjack. Even after all that, I know people that still get away with the car.

Its like, why break into a car that has an alarm and potentially get when there is another car down the street that doesnt have an alarm and prolly has the same stuff. Which car would u break into if u was a thief???

Im jus saying man. I paid 200 for my system installed. worth every penny especially since it also comes with keyless entry, 4 door monitoring, trunk monitoring , starter disable, and impact sensor.

While I rather have my local police department catching real criminals such as rapists, murderers, and arsonists. I wholeheartedly agree with you that cops aren't as cooperative with petty crimes; Especially when it's regarding a pair of headlights on a 12 year old Maxima. It's the principle that counts, they stole something regardless of the value.

So let me get this straight.

Crook takes maxima to his house, parks it on the street. Just assuming the crook lives on a block with fellow crook's....they stole parts from a stolen maxima.

Stealin from a stolen max.. what has the world come too..

Gotta rig the car with a secondary 12volt battery just to fry there **** right when the sit down! lol (just dont forget to disable it when you sit!)

Seriously tho.. my buddy had his car broken into and the city he lives in told him that they dont have the resources to send someone out and that he should go online and fill out the report himself! wtf...

( In other words we arent gonna do sh** about it so "good luck wit that"! )

I mean cmon! Back in the day they used to come out and check for prints and talk to the neighbors and you know ---> DO POLICE WORK!

If you want your car back you better call the police and say "OFFICER DOWN!! -- "THEY SHOT HIM AND TOOK OFF IN MY CAR MAN!"

( then describe your car -- lol )

*****************

I good thing to implement that im gonna do soon.. is to have a switch somewhere that cuts off you fuel.. or just pull the fuze every night!!

That added with an alarm, club ... ( not that someone couldnt pull up in a tow truck and just take it but )

Layers of security.. Im thinking about getting a gps thing too.. im just looking for something inexpensive..

Inexpensive? A 9V battery, a blinking LED, a resistor and a switch. For less than $10 my truck looks like it has an alarm. Blinks a little fast but looks good enough. I just turn it on every night when I go out to check that my doors are locked.

As stated, if someone wants it an alarm may not do any good. I'm glad the Max has a factory alarm to provide the blinking light but if someone leaves an iPod in the front seat I still expect a broken window and a missing iPod.

Theft is a good reason to keep insurance on your vehicle.
The 4th gen is over 12 years old, not much value left in them.
People will steal older cars because law enforcement isn't paying attention to them.

These my fellow org member are the facts. (and my .02)

Car wasn't found on his street, he's talking about where it was found. Original crooks took his headlights and left the car there then other parts where taken until he finally found the car.

I'll have to disagree with the R34 headlights as being the reason why 4th gens are being stolen. Even stock 4th gens are being stolen. When they took mine, they didn't even touch my R34 headlights. 4th gens are being stolen more for their popularity and demand for parts. There is a huge market for used parts. There are still tons of 4th gens in the tri state area. Plus, they are relatively easy to steal.

I'm talking specifically on the 4th gens stolen within the past week or couple months and brought to the Williamsburg area. It has to be the same person or people and all cars were just missing headlights which were R34's.

Can't help on the parts getting stolen, but for joyriders, I suggest installing a kill switch. Not a battery disconnect but a ignition kill switch.

I suggest wiring a switch into the signal wire for the fuel pump. Doing that will leave you with a car that will run for a second, then die. Pretty much acting like a car with one of them key-matching dohickies (can't remember the name). Did this to a friends car. Works like a champ.

If we were talking about something old with a carb, I would say a kill switch on the battery.

Probably. Kinda was misled from the thread lol. It may be a few people doing it just for those lights but seems odd. 4th gen thefts have been high in the past 2 years in the NYC area. Its usually for the parts but I guess a few people are just doing them for the headlights? Dumb ****ers.

Oh and cops are worthless when it comes to car thefts. Better off doing patrolling yourself.

You could put razor blades under your driver's door handle by hot gluing it. And open your driver's door via passenger or rear.

I've actually tried this one just for the heck of it and it actually hide the blade quite well, its almost a surefire way to **** off a crook because when we open our doors our fingers have to go all the way under the handle. Also you can get some DNA evidence, especially if you put it under all four door handles so when they try to get in another way they cut themselves again, and then they'll be forced to either break a window or steal another car.

But then you'll have to re-learn how to open your door or open it with one finger at a place where the blade doesn't reach.

Also couldn't we remove shift ***** when we leave the car to make take the car for a joy ride tougher? I know that in order to shift a auto you need to push down the button but I'm not sure if making it a quick release will be simple. For manual although you can still shift, I think it will be extremely difficult without a shift ****.

Or buy a detachable steering wheel. No point in stealing a car you can't steer

There is this one security device they use in clothing stores and for laptops where if a string is pulled it'll set off a alarm unless its disabled first. Its like a little box with a hole for a connection from a cable, and you could attach that cable to the steering wheel and when you put the other end into the device it'll arm and if you pull it out without disabling the device first a really loud alarm will go off. The device I've seen at my work place is made of steel and the cable is braided steel as well so cutting it will be a challenge. Not sure what its called though.

Or put a kill switch in your car and hide the actual switch some place inconvenient, or let technology help you out by getting one of those fancy remote actuated switches.

I believe I would choose to park my car in a better part of town rather than to go to this extreme. That's just me.

I'm not sure if that is possible unless you move. I mean what if you just happen to live in a crime ridden neighborhood?

I live in WA and even here there are neighborhoods where cars are stolen regularly especially Civics.

Sometimes, you need to fight fire with razor blades.

So you get mugged walking to your house? And leaving your car in a place so far away that you are even less likely to notice if something happens?

I guess my point is that life is too short to be extreme. I would say you would have more of a chance of hurting someone trying to pull you from your car after a crash than actually slicing up the hand of a would-be car thief.

1. Use the basic deterrents.
2. Enjoy life.
3. Done.

I'm curious is NY really that bad? I know what I know about NY through shows like CSI and other things. And so far my impression is that there are entire cities or towns that are... less than safe. So I assume that there are not just tiny pockets of crime but entire cities.

So I guess....

We will need to fight fire with razor blades!

I'm not trying to be mean, but basic deterrence has been not working. Our cars all came with basic deterrence like a stock security system, automatic locks, and such. But it is still one of the top stolen cars in NY.

Still, you have a great point.

But being the top stolen cars in some places I think its the other way around.

But don't worry there are still a ton of other things you can do, like on my post I said we could have detachable steering wheels (safe and hurts no one) kill switches, and ect. If I can cook up those ideas in 5 or so minutes I think someone is going to eventually come up with something great.

Well, all places have the good, and bad areas. Like down town Baltimore isn't nearly as bad as the...well every other part inside the beltway.

As far as "that bad." Well, when you have that moment when you are worrying at a stop light, you know the area ain't get.

The 4th gen is #5 on NY's top 10 most stolen list and has been for the past two years. 7th gens have it bad with their wheels as well. CSI is BS. It does not portray any realism about NYC. There are safe parts and nonsafe parts in NYC. But, if someone really wants something, they will get it no matter where they are. Mine was stolen from a place where I thought was safe. Turned out I was wrong.

Wow, this is nuts...never knew this. I have a GXE with stock everything and nothing too fancy except for R34 headlights and 2003 SE rims and 310K. Hopefully I don't become part of a statistic

Since I've moved on from a '99 to a '97 I need to secure my on a budget.

Wiring in a switch for the fuel pump power lead and hiding it. How about if the car is taken? An old cell phone hidden and hardwired for power but still with the battery pack so that if main power is cut it can still stay on. Then you can use the police and cell phone company to find it.

Some things to keep in mind here. Thieves probably patrol this site. The thieves are familair with the car and probably own or have owned one. They don't have to break the window to get into the car. No alarm... you are asking for trouble. 1 alarm siren..bye bye max. Alarm siren and alarm brains in the usual spots, they know that. Your trunk pop is still connected at the door, bye bye subwoofers, etc. Your car starts as soon as you turn the key/ignition switch? Bye bye car. A removable steering wheel will probably deter taking the car for a little while. Remember benzi boxes? Don't you wish they could do that to ecus? Since they don't, you have to figure something out to make your car undriveable, also keep in mind thieves also monitor you or recon the area days or hours before they hit. Don't show your car off. Sometimes thieves are people you slightly know or even met at maxima meets.

I'm considering this. I've got a driveway in a quiet suburb, but when I park up in the city this is probably a decent deterrent. Can't hotwire one fourth-gen Maxima? There's another across the street - it's not worth it to thieves trying to figure out why this one won't start. I get a smashed window and some broken wires, but I still have my car. Since I'm insured liability-only, this saves me the ~$3k I've spent on it.
