P0745 - Pressure Line Solenoid help

The other day my check engine light came on with the overdrive light flashed 16 times at me and started to shift really hard so I got it scanned, then got the P0475 code saying Pressure Line Solenoid A was bad. After doing some research, I went to the Nissan dealership by my house to find the Pressure Line Solenoid for my transmission, took the guy forever to identify a part, and then said they want $402 for it! The guy said they only sell the part in a package with other solenoids, but I call BS considering I've seen threads in similar nature saying they got the part for about $140. I haven't had the resistor to the solenoid checked, but I'm sure its fine. I plan on checking it for the 12 ohms needed for proper function before I get any parts. I have 4 questions however: What exactly does this Pressure Line Solenoid look like (Pic of actual part)? Does the transmission have to be taken out for the solenoid to be replaced? What are the steps for replacement? Is the part really that expensive or I'm I getting ripped off? Extra info: I found a part number, but I am not sure if it would help my situation: 31940-80X25 (Solenoid Valve Assembly Repair kit) Bonus question: If I get it, how do I use it? I checked other threads before hand, but wasn't getting what I needed. Please and thank you for help!

From looking at courtesyparts.com it looks like you are referring to part# 31940-A32B001. http://www.courtesyparts.com/maxima-...1851_1862.html That would be on the second picture. And yes, it looks like it only comes as an entire assembly with all the other solenoids.

The diagnostic procedure is on page AT-94 on the FSM: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/maxima/1997/AT.pdf

And this is why I don't drive automatics.

Thanks Bee. Now I'm slightly confused though. I found 3 pdf files based on this issue, one from 1996, 1998, and 1999 (The last one references my year car). Which one should I follow? Also, still confused if tranny needs to come out.

I would follow the one for your year. From reading the FSM it says the solenoids are an on-vehicle repair so the transmission should not need to be removed. Good luck!

Most excellent, I took my car down to a transmission shop and had them look at it. I was there for about 15 minutes and they solved the problem by replacing the freaking dropping resistor on the left strut tower behind the airbox. I got charged a little more than I wanted with $88 out of my wallet, but it sure beats 4 times that for the line pressure solenoid. My car shifts beautifully now.

I hope this thread helps other people in the future should it happen to anyone else.

You can buy all the solenoids including temp sensor I believe as well as a whole kit from nissan using a tsb part number. $100 something dollars. Wow $88 for that resistor!

I think I got it all figured out reguarding the Solenoid packs. If you attempt to buy the solenoid packs on the own = about $310 give or take. If you elect to buy the Solenoid repair kit listed in TSB NTB-043 ,(Nissan part # 31940-80X25), it only costs $89 at Courtesy Nissan. This "kit" includes:

Solenoid assembly qty 1 part # 31940-80X05 price= $309.61
Oil Pan Bolt qty21 part # 31377-80X09 price= $11.76 ($.56 X 21)
Drain Plug Washer qty 1 part # 11026-01M02 price= $1.17
Snap Ring qty1 part # 31506-80X11 price= $1.29

The way I see it, you save $234.83 and you get the solenoid pack PLUS new drain pan bolts, a new drain plug washer and a new snap ring. What a bunch of thieves. They arent called stealerships for nothing I guess.
