I35 Dash/Cluster/Climate/Clock Lighting Help?
I35 Dash/Cluster/Climate/Clock Lighting Help?
I want to change them all to a brighter white maybye a blue color. What size bulbs do I need to replace the clock and climate/dash control lights? ( I know there was a thread already but it was extremely confusing, and somewhat outdated.) Also, is it even possible to replace the guage cluster lighting on the I35 without replacing all of the guages?
Please post links of places to buy as to avoid confuision thanks!

When you start to disassemble the various dash pieces, you will see that the light sources that illuminate the clock and climate control's interface are miniature 12 volt incandescent lamps that sit in a twist-lock base. This link will educate and facilitate your knowledge on the aforementioned details, and will enlighten your focus on the task at hand.

I will add to that guide: Get the super-white LEDs at autolumination.com
The site is overwhelming at best. It appears to be maintained by a crack addict with ADHD. However, head over to this particular page: http://autolumination.com/74.htm.
There, you will need to find "Neo - Wedge LED Instrument Panel Bulbs Type A, B & C" You need Type B.
The gauge cluster on Infiniti I is illuminated by a fluorescent tube. Noting that everything in a car is just 12 Volts, you could retrofit hyper Green LEDs or whatever you choose to do, but it would take even the most astute tech person much time and aggravation. Do note that the "window" you look through to read your speed and engine rotational speed is polarized (tinted). For a fun project, hold a linear polarizing film up to the said window and rotate it through pi radians (180 degrees). Notice what happens to the light source as you do this.
Now what's your final goal with the Gauge Cluster Project?

How many miniature 12 volts will I need to completely change all of the climate control and clock lighting? Will any type b wedge bulb on from the autolumination site work? and Is there anyway to replace the fluorecent bulb that lights the cluster?

Check out my car for pictures of the dash leds. Its all been done before. Your gonna need three for the climate control and two for the clock.
For the cluster LED, I did this a while back in my I30...I'm pretty sure a I35 would be similar...here's a link...

Well its been a while since, ive been on the org but I have have just ordered 6 of the neo wedge bulbs from auto illumination (blue to match my led under dash). I am about to go attempt to change the shifter right now, since I have some extra 194 Wedge Bulbs. I figure it should be simple and easy since the shifter trim is one of the first things to be removed in the process anyways.

I believe you need NEO WEDGE Type B. (Its been a year since I did it, about 90% sure.) Your gonna need three for the climate control, and two for the clock. That will cover the center console. The shifter is a 194 Wedge style bulb. You can find a 194 LED wedge bulb on the same site. Hopefully I was of some help....
Yes, they are a direct replacement.

Just a heads up for anyone wanting to replace the clock LEDs with Neo Wedge Type B (specs: T4 with 10mm base) bulbs. DO NOT buy the dual "SMT II Neowedge LED Bulbs", they will not fit through the bulb socket hole for the clock's circuit board. I know because I bought them and broke one of these $5 bulbs trying to get it through the damn hole. Just buy the normal 'Neo Wedge' versions. I've never felt so defeated by such a small little **** as an LED bulb....

I got cheap T4's off of ebay and couldnt be happier. Theyre not too bright at night but theyre bright enough that they can still be seen during the day. The climate control on the other hand is iffy....brighter than stock but not all the buttons light up as bright as i would like.
