Suspension question: what to do?

Hi yall,

I have a 4th gen Maxima SE with a tein basic suspension. Only about a few weeks after installation, the rear coilover "blew out." I heard a loud pop, thought I did not know what happened. At the time I was hoping the loud pop was simply someone shooting at me; I can only presume that this would have been the best case scenario. Afterward, all seemed fine, for a while, except some clanking in the trunk..., This should have been pretty obvious.

Here we are a little more than one year later, and I have finally found the source of the problem. The coilover exploded the nuts, washers and rubber piece straight off. Now I have a clanking metal rod swaying to and fro.

What is my best option here? Do I buy a new set of coilovers and change out the rear? Do I buy springs and shocks and use these in the rear while keeping the front coilovers?

Any advice would be most appreciated.

If the coilover is salvagable you could send it in to be rebuilt or like you said put rear springs and shocks in the rear. IMO I would try to get the coilover rebuilt and keep it all coilovers.

Thanks for the reply.

I wanted to gather feedback to see what the better alternative might be. A rebuild does seem like the best way forward. I'll try to contact tein and find out if I can get it rebuilt. If this fails, I guess springs it is....
