Wondering if anybody has their maxima wrapped in matte black vinyl and if they do, can you post the pictures. Thinking of wrapping mine in matte black. Pictures anybody?

 

It would cost a lot of money to be done right. Probably close to what a paint job costs, and most vinyl only has a lifespan of 5-7 years + vinyl fades from time and weathering. I could see it on a weekend car that is garage kept, but for a DD...NO

I guess you could paint it, but i just though it could be cheaper to wrap it yourself and plus you can always take it off once you get bored with it. Just wondering if anyone has done it on a 4th gen.

 

It would probably be somewhere around the same price to paint it, and painting it would last alot longer. Idk if any 4th gen has done it though.

 

there are a couple threads out there with a max that is painted flat black, with tucked 20's and a custom cloth sunroof... its got other stuff done, and its sorta low-rider style but itll give you the best idea of the look... if i find it later ill update the post...

 

back in the 80's when I drove a V-8 Monza in primer black everyone asked when I was going to paint the car. I must have been some sort of visionary

 

ummm, whats the point of having your car look like its got primer on it??? who da **** would want that over a good paint job???

 

matte only looks good on newer cars IMO.... older cars no matter how clean it is just looks god awful. just looks like another hooptie needing paint.

Never into the matte black look, it just looks like a primed car waiting to be painted and the owner ran out of money so he just didn't paint it. If you're going to do a wrap you might as well go with the carbon fiber wrap but this stuff does get pricey to get it done right.

 

what you need/want is called a vehicle wrap. i can get you one, i work in promotional marketing and i have vendors that specializes in vehicle wraps. send me a pm if you are seriously interested and I will send you an exact price. a full vehicle wrap is about the cost of a good paint job like tigersharkdude said, and you will need a professional to install it to get the full warranty.

If you're going that route, look into chalkboard paint... not my 'thing' either but if you're going to do it you might as well have some fun with it!

 

Next thing u know ppl gonna want to start to stencil and add decals....

 

There is 10yr vinyl, and you can get a vehicle wrapped for around 5-600 bux especially since he doing a solid color and not a custom printed graphic, much cheaper then painting a car plus if a year or two later you decide to go back to OEM just simply have the vinyl removed, no need to repaint.
Good vinyl shouldnt fade either. I have to friends that own vinyl business and do signs, banners, and vehicle wraps.


I disagree, old rods look awesome in matte black. They were the originators of the look. I feel most newer cars dont look to good with it unless they cars are true sprots cars or exotics. Its dfinitely a look that not all vehicles can pull off.

good question. i know bmw has powdercoated entire cars though.

 

From what Ive read its clear powder topcoat only.

 

If you prep it first and spray it right like any other paint job you can get a good primer look. Otherwise if you rattle can it it will look like garbage. I've heard the house of kolor hot rod black looks good (its a satin black).

IIRC, topgear mentioned that you can hardly wash it without ruining it.

 

did they say why?

 

You can't scrub it, because it naturally wants to shine. It would be like polishing a freshly wet-sanded car.

To care for it, you wash with a foam gun and light pressure with a microfiber mitt. Dry lightly, then protect with furniture polish. You read that right.

 

I really liked the max with chrome rims in post 18, very nice.
