rwd 3.0 vs fwd 3.0
whats the difference between the 3.0 in my buddys 89 300zx vs the 3.0 in my 99 I30? are any parts interchangeable? are the engines compatible? why is his 3.0 more powerful than my 3.0? could i do an engine swap? thanx.
lol you have alot to learn. His engine is a VG30 and your engine is a VQ30. Look up the specs for both. If your looking for a more powerful engine your looking in the wrong place. Search VQ35.

Not necessarily. The Z32 started production in '89 as a '90 model and many times people confuse '90's for '89's based off their production date on the inside of the door. Japan also have the first Z32's recognized as '89 models. You are right though that the VG30DE and VQ30DE-K are very similar in power output and unless he's referring to a twin turbo model.
I think the real basis of the question is asking interchangeability, in which case, the answer is NO ... aside from the A32 folks "upgrading" to the larger Z32 fuel filter, and in some FI applications, the Z32 MAF. Both of those are sort of non-mechanical/detached items though.
