After it was recommended in a recent thread, visited easy-tire.com and picked up a set of 17's (irrelevant for this thread) and a set of 18's.

I always knew with tires you get what you pay for. However, the Marongoni "Mythos" tires were some of the least costly. In my experience so far, these tires have been surprising! They ride much better than the Continentals I had before. These are only a Summer tire as I'd rather run something more narrow (the 17's I mentioned) in the winter. I've had no issues in the rain and even my passengers have commented on how much more smooth the ride feels. The road noise was also cut in half! I picked up all 4 Mythos for $394 shipped!! I feel I got MORE than what I paid for!

Having said all that, winter is over and this has been the first opportunity to put my 18's back on the front. This is also the first time with 18's on the front since I lowered the car with Eibach springs.

I've posted some images of the tires, tread, and the car's stance. I'd like some feedback about the stance....NOT that I'm complaining.....but, it seems that the car sits lower than other images I've seen with where Eibachs leave the front sitting.

 

I dont' know much about drops but dude your car looks freaking awesome! did you paint those rims?? I am running on the 15s that the GLE came with an I am jelous of your wheels lol.

 

They were already painted when I got them. You can tell they need to be repainted....maybe with next year's tax return; I've already got the name of a good powder coater.

I really like that tread pattern and you car does look lower on Eibach's, my 4th gen does too for some reason. Very nice! Cheap tires can be good. I happen to like my Achilles ATR Sport's a lot.

However, I don't see my tires listed anylonger. They must have sold out. The 17's I got are Nankangs....picked up all 4 for about $376 shipped.

Chrisman: Wasn't sure if it's just my big butted 350 added pounds helped the springs settle a little lower! LOL! Course, my Eibachs on my '89 seem to drop it lower than the springs indicate as well.

 

are those 245/45/18?
I am thinking of putting 245/40/18 on Q45 18s. on my max.

 

That could be it, no offense. I'm also around three hundred pounds and got my springs used. Plus, I'm auto so I feel that helps as well. I'm not complaining though

Chris - no offense! I know I'm a big man and I'm auto as well, I was aware they may sit lower. That's kind of why I posted to get perceptions from those who have the same drop...maybe this stance is very typical. Eh, I also get to show off a little! Course, I'm not complaining either!!

NmexMax: That is a completely custom grill I made...think I finally got it installed last fall. Still needs some work and I'm going to redo the mesh as I accidently cut it just a tad too short at the bottom. I'm also going to modify how to attach it....bought some parts to do just that yesterday. Essentially, it is a completely hacked stock grill....leaving only the out ring. I re-enforced the left/right sides with metal melted into the plastic, then fiberglassed it. Also fiberglassed the bottom where the center support was cut out the grill. Painted it the dark gray like my ground Fx....grill painted black...installed an ebay, chrome "Nismo" emblem...and done. I did choose to paint in behind my grille black...re: the horn and inside of bumper so that it would not be highly visable. I also removed the plastic center support bar from the bumper, didn't really do anything anyway as the top part of the bumper in the middle is supported by a metal bar that runs across. I'll send some images your way. But, I did an enter thread on it. I'll edit and post the link.

Edit: Here is the link to the grill thread. Actaually, pretty much all my images and info about the build is in there. The grill is much like those off ebay, except mine is actually recessed about 1-1.5" back into the bumper, giving it some greater dimension. I think it looks a lot better in person.

In this pic im running a 245-40-18 on an eibach drop also, and need to switch to a 245 45 to fill in the gap a little more though.car looks good man nice job.

 

245/40 is waaaaay too much tire if you ask me... i use to ride with 225/40 and that was enough.... to the OP i say lower it some more for added stance

The drop looks good on those rims, wanted to drop to 17s but will probably do 18s since will still be a nice size gap with 17s.....

 

OP, that's why it looks lower on those eibachs is bc the tires are too big.

225/50/17: 25.9" stock
245/45/18: 26.7"
245/40/18: 25.7"

It won't hurt anything necessarily. You acceleration will be a lil slower and you're speedo will be off by like 2 mph.

what is considered "stock" in your comment ? 5th gen? please clarify
IIRC 5th gen GLEs are 215/55/R17 for stock

 

Makes sense; that explains it! I have read that the 245/45 helps fill the gap. I can see that now. I'm happy with it though!! And with TN roads, I'd rather have a little more tire. They way I see it, as the tire wears I'll be moving closer to stock diameter by the time it's all said and done!

 

225/50/17 is the stock size for the SE's
215/55/17 is the stock size for the GLE's

I just used 225/50/17 bc I assumed he had an SE.

215/55/17: 26.3"
245/45/18: 26.7"

I know its not a huge difference but it's almost half an inch and regarding drops, it make a difference. There nothing necessarily wrong with it but it explains why his drop seems lower. My 02 GLE came with 225/55/17's on it when I bought it used which is the same diameter as OP's tires, so my car looks slammed (on KSports btw) lol because it tucks the tires...when in all actuality I could go lower if the tires were the correct diameter.

Now if performance is OP's main goal, theyd be better off with a smaller diameter ESPECIALLY if he's an AT since our gearing blows.

Yup, I'm an SE and auto. Honestly, I've noticed no change in acceleration. Performance change I've noticed has only been that the car is smoother, quieter, and handles better! Course, I'm sure if I was measured before and after at the track, there would be a difference.

I'm fixing to install a Transgo HD kit, so further auto-tragic issues regarding shifting and slipping is anticipated to be resolved! It will either help me go faster or burn more fuel trying! LOL!

 

Yeah, just because there's a measurable difference doesnt necessarily means there's a noticeable difference.
