tell me its not the tranny......... plz

O.k so apparently I'm not suppose to own a nissan maxima at all, id be really disappointed if I lost another tranny... so I'm driving with a buddy when all the sudden out of nowhere the car won't go stay into 2nd gear, I all the sudden came to astop n the car won't stay in 2nd, I can get it in gear then but soon as I get off the clutch ill watch it jump right back out.. had somebody sat in the car n put it in 2nd an tried holding the cables in place while the let up off the clutch, even with trying to hold the car in gear it pops right out n gives a loud grinding sound..... I'm sure with my luck it will tbe tranny number 10 smh

how cheap exactly?

Also go to autozone and buy some Penzoil Synchromesh.. and just make sure all your cables are routed properly. The only time that's happened to me is when the shifter bracket bushing was totally gone and would pop out of 1st while driving

Mine did that. It ended up being the synchro wire for 2nd gear. It dislodged and ended up getting lodged in 2nd gear and tore it up pretty bad.

Good luck man. Hopefully it's not the same as mine, but sounds exactly like what happened to me.

Had to replace 2nd gear, 2nd gear synchro, and the 3rd gear synchro.

2nd gear was chewed up pretty bad.

So I'm sitting at the local popeys and I got curious if the car will go in gear with the car on without pressing on the clutch, tried 4th n no go but it seems like it would allow me to go in 3rd, (with that loud grind of coarse, I didn't force anything, just gently tried... soon as it grind I let it go.... that shouldn't be posible right? I am still a MT noob

A lot, I'd just find a sentra tranny and swap your bellhousing on it. Super budget option right there.

its only a budget option if you can do the bellhousing swap yourself.. otherwise you need to factor in labor.. which is atleast an extra $200-$300.. asuming you can find someone willing to do it..

It'll still be cheaper than a maxima trans. You can find a sentra trans for next to nothing.
