next car a 2004-2008 Maxima or 2003+ Infiniti g35?

what's the pluses and minuses of both cars. I know they both have the same engine in them, the g35 sedan is RWD, which might handle the power of the engine better and probably is more luxurious. What would u guys pick btwn those 2 cars? What are some things I might need to think about before picking btwn the 2 cars?

Not the exact same engine.

I'd get a newer Infiniti G. A34's aren't my favorite Maximas. (05+). If the Maxima is what you really like, I'd get an 07+.

My mother owns a 2003 G35 Sedan and she's had it for 5 years. She loves it.
My buddy owns a 2005 G35 Coupe. It's fast as hell and he also loves it.

I'd shoot for the G35 IMO. I'm not a fan of the A34 either. They are by far my least favorite Maxima.

If you live in an area with snow, ice etc I'd look into a G35x for the AWD. I've driven my mother's car in the snow and it isn't a wonderful experience. I much prefer my FWD A32 in the snow.

How long have you been in OK for?? Lol we've had some pretty bad storms the last couple winters..

Back to topic. I would also go for a G35. Are you looking for coupe or sedan?

I'm wanting to spend about 10-12k on the car and 07+ maxima's are out of that price range. ALso wanting an auto because my wife can't drive a stick unfortunately and like those auto that have a shifting mode. ANyone ever use that before? I'm sure it's not the same thing, but I drove a kia with a stickmatic transmission when I rented a car and have to say it was pretty fun and that was a crappy kia =)

also is there a lot of performance mods for g35s? I would assume they would be just like a maxima or altima since they all have the 3.5v6, but some of guys say it's not the exact engine? I know it's also RWD which is different than the maxima, but the reviews say that the 350z, altima, max, g35 etc, all have the same 3.5 v6 just some have different intakes and exhaust to increase hp, are they wrong>?

I'm not sure if you factored in "Cost of Ownership" on both of these cars. Insurance, parts, labor, etc.... can make you regret it down the road if you're not prepared for it.

03 04 g35 sedan and coupe have the least issues and some even have factory widebands. The sedan is lighter than the coupe and the auto with a valve body mod is incredibly quick. A bone stock auto coupe runs a 9.4 back to back to back to back at our 1/8 mile track. I have an 04 coupe in the driveway now (friends overseas for a year or 3) and they are really refined for the model year.

The things to watch out for are breaking axels from wheel hop and trying not to ram the rev limiter. They really love the 7200rpm flash.

G35 without a doubt, I'm not too crazy about a34s, rwd is more fun, there's wayyy more aftermarket goodies out there for the g35s plus chicks dig them

G35 all the way..I regret not getting a g35x white when i was looking at cars..but it made a funky sound when the guy started it up so i immediatly said no..and ended up with an altima. I say get the g35 and or g37 if you can afford it. :-D

Here's my advice: If you're on a budget, I'd factor in the cost of ownership. I'm not sure how much more (or less) the G will run you (maintenance, parts, etc...) but I'd check before I make the move. Also, call your insurance company and see how much more it'll cost you. I'm pretty sure the infiniti will cost a bit more (i could be wrong).

G35 for sure. Also i prefer rwd to fwd in the snow. Once You lose traction in fwd there is nothing You can do at all. At least with rwd i can still steer.

Fwd drive over rear in snow. Rwd well always fishtail in the snow at slow speed. With fwd you control your steering /drivetrain to go in the direction u need. Compare to when u lose trac with rwd you will do a 180 no matter if you use the handbrake or try to power over.

only get a RWD if you want one to have as a toy car or if you live in mostly dry areas like California Florida. Arizona etc.

Authoritative ignorance is just about the funniest thing. Rand Paul for President!!!

OP, get the Infiniti. It's a solid, classy ride, with better resale than that 6th gen, and better styling, too, IMO.

I love Maxes as much as the next guy (obviously) but it's not in the same league as a G series. G's started when Nissan decoupled the GTR from the Skyline lineup, and when you drive a G35 or 37, its Skyline heritage shows.

thanks guys for all the advice. Your right I really hate how the 04+body style of the maxima's are, but love my maxima and the quiality of so the g35 is a good compromise because it's like a really luxurious maxima. RWD is awesome to me because it rarely snows and we have a 1995 HOnda Odyssey as our crap vehicle that's heavy and FWD to drive in the snow. I'm gonna check on insurance prices and already checked on parts and they are about the same as the maxima, so hopefully the insurance isn't too high. I was aslo looking in the LS4 powered GM cars, Impalla ss/ponitiac Grand Prix GXP's, but found 100's of threads about the trans being crap in those cars and going out because of all that power to a FWD car, 303hp to be exact, so that's out of the question now

Not with a manual transmission you can't.

So what's the point?

Just swap an LS motor into a G35. It's been done many times.

I know a lot of u guys are rich so u obviously don't understand how expensive that idea is. I'm gonna have $13500 total to spend on a car. I would love to see a link to someone who did that though, I miss the sound of my LS1 t/a starting up in the morning. That's the only thing I miss when I drive my maxima is the sound of the V8

Hey, I have both an 02 Maxima GLE and an 06 G35 RWD Sedan 5AT. Definitely get the G35 and if you can, go for an 05+ model. Mine is a sport with all options. After some bolt-ons, I can easily say it's one of the quickest cars for the money. I literally put bus lengths on my buddys 10' Maxima. Good luck.

that's an awesome G. unfortunaly with the money I have, the 03-04 is probably more in my range, but definately getting the sedan and auto and modding it. HOw many mods do you think it would take to get the car in the mid 13's in the 1/4 mile? That's kinda my target for all cars. Had a transam that would run 13.5's in the 1/4 mi and that was about as fast as I could literally want. I did a PCM update and got it running high 12's and could barely drive it straight, it was way too fast and scary to drive on the street, so I can to the realization the 13.5's is about as fast as I want my street car =)

05 or better g sedan If you plan to mod the car ( nicer exterior imo than the 03 ,04) slightly better brakes also
04_06 6spd only manual option
07_08 auto better exterior

Faced with same choice 2 months ago however I knew I had to get an auto .... Decided the maxima was the better option for me now ...

By the time its time to get a new car agaiin G37 6spd

There's a price difference between the two but it's intirely what you're looking for. I haven't seen nor do it know if the infiniti comes in manual and the maxima's are infamous for the timing chain noise.

In my opinion if you get a low KM 6thgen maxima with 6spd for a good price, take it. Don't know too much about the infiniti except the parts are a little more costly than the maxima
