got new OEM rotors now im questioning which pads to get. i have two in mind and just wanted second opinions maybe someone has experiences with these brands.


ones a duralast c max from autozone for $54.99 its a premium ceramic pad i get 20 percent discount since i work at autozone. or should i get the EBC green stuff pads.?

My buddy owns his own shop and helps me do alot of work on my car. I saw him putting Duralast Gold pads on a customers car one day, and I asked him about it. Said he'd never put them on his own car.

Look into a pair of Hawks TPS pads. Those are near the best from what Ive heard on the forums

I really don't know why the brake pad matters. If you aren't taking your car to a track, the only things to compare with pads are noise, dust, and wear. The pads one level down from the AZ Duralast Golds stopped my Maxima fine, but they dusted like a ****. I'd probably have gone with the Golds if I knew how badly they dusted.

Also, the dude at my Autozone told me you can get AZ pads with lifetime warranty replaced for free, and that people actually do this. Screamin' deal, then - buy the ceramics, never pay for brake pads again.

Besides that, anything about which pad "grabs" better or will stop your car faster is just hype. Any brake pad/rotor combo will exceed the limit of your tires' available traction, unless you're on drag slicks or 24" spinners.

 

Brake pads matter a whole lot. It dicates how your brakes will feel the moment you step on them. I tend to believe a pad with a metallic compound will have a higher initial bite feel compared to a ceramic which tend to produce less dust and wear longer. If it were me, I care more about bite than dust. The best pad I've used on my Maxima when I still had it were Axxis ULT. A similar if not better pad would be Stoptech streetperformance or 309 pad. Any car I install 309 pads grab with eyeball popping force just resting the foot on the brake pedal! Both pads are inexpensive compared to other brands.

 

ebc greens are crap imo, hawks will get you alot more bang for the buck. i had reds and they chewed thru some brembo's i had in 4 months.

any semi-mettallic composites over ceramic unless it's carbon ceramic.

 

I don't know about best, but I run Wearever ceramics from Advanced...no dust, no noise, and good stopping power. For normal driving, I don't see a reason to have anything more than that.

 

After putting on 18X8.5 wheels my stock brakes would slip under hard braking. Installed Meyle rotors and PBR metalmaster pads and it will plant your face into the windshield now. Only complaint I have is they dust the front wheels really bad.

The coating on the rotors is amazing. Over a year now and not even a hint of rust.

If your riding stock size wheels then I would just go with regular pads. I never had a problem with OEM pads until I went up in wheel size.

 

This info just seems all wrong. Currently ive got Duralast Golds (not my choice....) on my car and they suck *****. I wanted to put Brembo Blank rotors on and Hawks TPS pads but my Dad had taken the car to get brakes done without telling me... What ever free brakes.

They do suck though, they dont seem to have much stopping power, especially now that Im running my g35 rims.

 

yea, i will be getting 18 inch rims with some grip and i have a decent suspension. the reason im wanting the better grabbing pad is because the reaction time u have if someone cuts you off can lead to a front end collision or just a stop and drive by flick guy off. or when hauling *** on freeway and haveing to do a quick stop cheap pads will not grab past 100mph.


anyways it feels really good having some powerful pads that way u barely touch brake pedal and it stop very quick and easilly less foot effort to stop.


i guess ill try some Hawk pads.

Im running duralast golds too.

Either the pads suck or i shd bleed my brakes cuz my wheels dont lock up no matter how hard i press the pedal.

Other than that, stopping power is fine. I got them on my girl's focus and she stop like a **** lol

For the price you can't go wrong with EBC or Hawks.

 

You're right duralast gold pads don't lock up too well. The only good thing is they have a lifetime warranty. I put them on 9 years ago and have traded them in twice at no charge. Both pairs I traded in were cracked.

 

great pads. but axxis ultimates are right behind at half the price.

im gonna go with HAWKS and resurface rotors.

 

i would'nt suggest resurfacing the rotors. just sand them down a little bit with some light grit sandpaper and let pads marry into the rotors. your taking too much surface from the rotor when you do that.

I've never heard of Hawk TPS pads, but I have their HPS pads and they are great. However, if the Axxis pads are comparable for half the cost, I'd go with them.

 

I heard about some Pads that were made just for our cars, has anyone tried them yet? They are touted as being "super" and have a satisfaction guarantee. These ones are heavy use rated, I wonder if that means track day pads??

 

im kinda bummed that u guys are saying that there are pads that bite harder than the duralast golds. I thought those pads were good.

I might jus swap in better pads for the hell of it. No rush tho.

I have the duralast golden on my max and they do it fine for me. Can't beat a lifetime warranty. I don't drive crazy fast and don't track so no need to invest in expensive pads. When I do decide to track it, I will be getting powerslots and hawk pads ftmfw

 

Ive got wearevers too and mine squeek like a biotch. They annoy the **** outta me. But w.e my dad paid for everything to get my pads and rotors, so i guess i cant complain lol
