Came back from the local dealer
Came back from the local dealer
They had 1 base Sterling Mist 6speed MSRP at $26,068 and they wanted $21,000 for my car as trade-in. Invoice is $23,471...what do you guys think is a good buying price?

Tell them that you and them both know that 6-speeds don't sell very well and this car could very well be on their lot for quite some time. Tell them if they pay off your trade-in ... if it was financed, that you will settle for taking the 6 speed off their hands for invoice + $500. Then again, if you don't have a balance on your car, get them as low as you can. Don't be affraid to walk off the lot ... these are your buying terms, not theirs. FYI, do you have a CarMax in your area? They have new car dealerships on their "Super Store" lots. The one in White Flint, Maryland has a NIssan dealership. CarMax is a no haggle car dealers ... either pay their price or walk. Great thing is though, the only charge $27 over invoice!!! Go to http://www.carmax.com and do a search for new cars and see what you come up with ... might be worth a drive if one is semi-locally located.

I just went in to negotiate for an HLSD order. Best I could get out of them (after two final
offers) was invoice + $950. I left. That just seems like a heck of a lot of profit for them for not much work. Will keep working it. Also, the downpayment they want with an order is weird. They say it is fully refundable, but I am just too sceptical of everything they say. Also, no guarantee the price will be the same when it comes in.
Use Edmunds and CarsDirect.com to get prices for the model and options you are looking at.
Good luck.

I just bought a '02 SE for $23,411 ... $500 below invoice. The $500 is the Nissan Good Buy Rebate that is in effect until Wednesday. Try using CarsDirect.com to get a very low quote in your area, and then use that as the starting point for this car at the dealership you visited. It only took me about 15 seconds to get my salesman down to invoice minus the $500 rebate with that quote from another dealer.
I think the the trade-in sounds like a good deal, but I'd work the price down a bit. I bought my AE for about $27 (new) even and that is loaded with all the options. $26 for a base SE is too high considering that car dealerships are struggling to sell cars these days...the extra 30 ponies doesn't validate their cost increase...particularly when you say its BASE meaning no leather, no Bose, no spoiler, etc., etc.
Did you go to the Stanford Nissan?
I know they have one 2k2 6-speed Sterling mist sitting on the lot at least 2 months already.

I told them that they'll have an easier time selling my fully loaded car for a profit than the base 6speed that I wanted to purchase. The Sales Manager told me that it was a "hot" car and that everyone is looking for one. If so, why hasn't he sold this one then! I'm going to try another dealer today.
