Got a problem, how to remove paint from taillights?

Yes you heard me right, many of you know I got 8tickets 2weeks ago for all the "illegal" stuff on my car and one of the biggest ones is the blacked out tails. ADMAN told me about this spray that VHT makes and you spray it on and it is trasparent but makes your tails looked blacked out like as if you put on those "GTO" covers.

Now I need to get this paint off, cant use Acetone cause that will chew up the clear plastic, cant use GOOF-OFF cause that does the same thing. I need to know what the hell to use otherwise I am gonna have to buy a new set of tails.

Try going to a body shop and see what they recommend. Does the spray can say anything about what to use to take it off?

Throttle body cleaner does a good job with removing tail light paint. I used it on my painted 95 tails, it got all the paint off but in some spots it left a washed out look.

goo be gone!

Try Goo Gone. that might do the trick. Even Meguiar's paint cleaner is pretty good at chewing away sprayed on paint. Might want to give those two a shot.

You can do it for free perhaps! If you have a bottle of opened brake fluid, use it! It is a great paint remover.

Otherwise, throttle body cleaner is good!

Don't forget to buff your tail lights with mother polish after you removed the paint.

I had this same problem on my 3rd Gen, got a citation and had to take the blackout spray off. Nothing seemed to work, used all sorts of thinners and chemicals finally decided to wet sand it with very fine grit sand paper and it worked well, i would have bought new tail lights had this not worked.............

See the KEY to all of these recommendations you people have been giving is that it CANNOT mess up the plastic, you know the CLEAR plastic that is your Tail lights. Kinda pointless if it messes up my Clear plastic also.

I am gonna try the non-acetone based nail polish remove, then gonna try the throttle body cleaner, but still gonna have to test that throttle body cleaner.

Do I get the throttle body cleaner at an Auto Store? I need to do a cleaning on my brothers Mazda MX6

Use Castrol Super Clean. that will take off the paint and shouldn't
damage the plastic.

Well if you read the first post, you would have also read the part that I got 8 tickets in one day. One of them dealt with having blacked out tails. The Motor Vehicle Admnistration will suspend my tags in 15days if I dont show them that my tails are up to "CODE"

That is why, yeah I am ****ed.

If you can't get them off, it may be time to the 2k2 rear lights (if you like them) . Good luck!!

No offense there 2k2 buddy, but they look Hideoous/Ugly on a black car.

Tommorow I am getting the car's tags transfered to Alabama since my parents live here. And I asked a police officer here and he said the blacked out tails here are NOT ILLEGAL, so I might be in the clear. But I still may remove it because I dont seem to live the COMPLETELY black rear section right now.
