I replaced my DS front bearing about 6 month ago, now it has rotational noise from the front left side. I think the noise is from the axle (I had some clicking noise when I turn all the way for a while), but this noise is when wheel pointing straight. Before I buying another axle, I just want to be certain it isn't the wheel bearing. The bearing is OEM from Nissan dealer and I installed myself. I almost certain it was installed properly and the only thing concerned my at the time was I did not re-pack the new bearing with bearing grease as it seem to come with grease.

Anyway, for you Maxima gurus, do you repack the new OEM bearing prior to installation? If not, dos anyone experience pre-mature failure?

 

We use sealed bearings, opening them isnt the best idea. We dont use the bearings like on ford trucks that do need repacking.

 

did you use a press to put the bearing in or did you hammer the crap out of it :-)

I did press it in properly as per instruction in stick thread. I don't think there is an error there.

So I assume the OEM bearings what is called sealed bearings can be just pressed in as is and no need for re-pack, correct?

 

Hmmm... Just discussed the issue with a couple of car guys. Most don't think my rotational (rubbing) noise is not due to the bad axle as I still have the noise while I keep the wheel straight forward. (Tried while I put the front end on the jack stands). The other possibility other than the wheel bearing is the brake. Any suggestion of how I can narrow it down?

No, it can be hardly heard. I can only hear when I put my ear next to the wheel. In fact, among all the other noises from a 16 year old car, it doesn't even stand out while I am driving...

 

when my cv axle went bad it would click LIGHTLY on straight aways and slightly louder on turns. id start there. get a cv with lifetime warranty and if it doesnt fix it just resell the like new axle or keep for spare. hard to tell without a video though.

 

Lets clarify, an axle like the bearing can make noise while the wheel is straight. Very possible. I rould re-check the axle nut touque to make sure it hasn't backed off. If not remove axle boot and look for shaving's or pits on the bearing *****.
