Price quote for changing transmission fluid & coolant is outrageous

I called the local Nissan dealer today inquiring about the cost of changing the coolant and transmission fluid. I was shocked because he told me it'll cost $150 for the transmission fluid and $130 for the coolant (drain and fill).

This is a lot higher than I expected

Why not do it yourself if you're simply doing a drain-fill. A dealer is going to charge you labor which is usually $90-$130 per hour and product costs plus they will charge you an hours labor cost regardless of whether it takes an hour or five minutes.

Both are easy. Just make sure to use d-matic nissan fluid for the tranny. And for a dealer that tranny service isnt too expensive. The coolant flush, ya thats high. Search the forums and you can see just how easy it is to do yourself.

Look for local shops using coupons for coolant flushes. I see plenty of flushes for $40-$50 locally (not just the drain n fill)

Can you change the tranny fluid without dropping the pan? Kinda like changing the oil where you just remove a bolt and drain the oil?

Fill through the tranny dipstick tube if auto or the fill plug if manual (didn't see you specify)

Is it really that easy? THat's easier than changing the oil lol.

Does the automatic tranny demand specific nissan ATF or can you use aftermarket?

4th GEN MAXIMA (1995-1999) isn't the only forum. This thread in the FLUIDS & LUBRICANTS forum describes how to easily flush all 10 quarts of ATF
