Question Painting Calipers

Ok,

So this is my first thread and I have brought the topic up before in another thread, but not wanting to get too off topic, I made this one.

Has anybody here painted their calipers on their 7th gens?

If so, are you willing to post pics?

I want to paint mine, but I'm not sure which route to go in terms of color, method, do-it-yourself, etc. Just want some opinions on this, in general.

Thanks!

fyi, you could get caliper covers if you dont wanna go through the trouble of painting. if you do go the paint route, i would get them powdercoated.

Before

After

Nothing fancy . Like $8 in paint and a few foam brushes. Just be sure to not get any paint on the sliders and you'll be good.

Sorry, I just want to see how it looks from afar.

I'd invest $50.00 in a good set of jack stands before I would paint my calipers....

+1

hell I'd invest in jack stands if you plan on doing anything to your car beyond driving it

oh and +1 to the caliper brush on paint kit - very easy to do just take a metal wire brush scratch all the crap off spray degreaser and just paint everything but the bleeder valve and brake shoes and brake lines. i did mine 7 months ago and they still look great

Again, thanks for the input!

I'll be buying the stands within the next week and the paint kit as well.

I'll let you all know how it comes out, and take pictures!

Wow, they look nice, but they're kinda huge, in my opinion and $200 is a lot....

I'm going to be looking into all options.

If you are going to paint them and want something that is durable and that will last forever G2 caliper paint is the way to go... It can be had for $30-$40...

Yea,

See thats the kit I've been reading the most about. I think I'd feel safer painting it on myself anyways with a brush, to avoid having to tape it up.

My new 2011 has silver painted calipers already and they look decent. Most vehicles usually are unfinished from the factory.

How long is this silver paint going to last before rust shows thru it??

im pretty sure u are just seeing un weathered un finished calipers... you should paint them a few coats before they see winter and rust wont come for a long time

I got my caliper paint from Autozone for $20. Its a brush on application which took me about 3 hrs. I applied two coats which looks really nice and thick. I would post pics but don't know how to post pics. I'll try later on during the day and see if I can figure it out and I'll post some pics of the Black Beauty with Red Rotors.

I'm torn...

Im going to get the G2 kit as suggested.

The only problem is, I'm stuck choosing between red caliper paint on my all black Maxima; or black caliper paint.

I dont know if the red will look right, but also still want to be able to tell that they're painted.

svargas05 if you like I can email you some pics of my baby. She's a black beauty just like yours and I went with the red which stands out just great on her. I would post the pics but I'm not sure how to do it on this forum so it's easier to email them to you if you want. Let me know if want to see some pics

Well to post pics here you must first upload them to flickr or photobucket. Right click the image, and copy URL.

THEN click the little frame icon (the yellow with gray mountains) and paste the URL for that photo (wherever you uploaded it from)

but if that's too much trouble: abrahamvargas2010 AT gmail DOT com

Thanks!

Installed and washed. Washed rims and car two hours later and no spots on calipers. I'll post a full pic. Of the car tomorrow.

Thanks GM_Traitor3.5VQ & svargas05. I will post that picture later on today. I'm still not done with her yet still messing with the rims so I'm sure it will look better once I'm done with those babies. I think I spent more time washing the back of the rim than painting the calipers lol.

Just google "G2 caliper paint" and that's it.

I'm going to buy it too! Its about $40 for the kit that has enough paint for all 4 calipers.

Yes they are lol. These wheels are great and the price was really good too. I got my set from American Tire Company and paid $680 installed with the lifetime warranty. I didn't expect to find that kind of a price especially from a place like that.

I don't know what this G2 stuff is but I got my kit from Autozone for $20 bucks. It's made by Dupli-Color and its a brush on application. The kit comes with everything you need except the sandpaper. I even checked Kragen and it goes there for about the same only $3 more. Here is a link of what the stuff looks like and price I got it for. Hope this helps guys
