Why do 19" tires cost more than 20" tires?
So I've been browsing different wheel and tire combinations recently and I'm perplexed as to why 20" tires generally cost less than 19" tires?
Anyone know why? Are 19" tires a rare size?

I believe it's because it's an unusual size. I can get 22s cheaper then 19s. A friend of mine works for a tire place and when I told him my maxi had 19s on it he said that's odd. I asked why and he said they always have people coming in and asking fir 18s or 20s but never 19s.

Like everyone above has mentioned, 19's are an odd size and not as popular. But imo I think 19's are really the perfect size for alot of cars. The 18's are preety much stock on alot of cars and no big deal. The 20's are too big imo and look a little getto to me where the 19's are just right.
It helps to make friends at the tire shop when you run 19s. The most I ever payed for my tires were about $125 a peice, mounted and balanced. My next set of wheels will be 20s though.
19's are not that expensive anymore, my x-girlfriend had an M3 with 19's back in 03/04 and her 19's were 1200 for 4, and now the tires I'm looking at Yokohama Advan S4 should cost me 800, tires prices have come down but, 18-22 and even 24's are way more common, odd how cheap 15, 16 & 17 are, this girl I know complained about the 140 bucks her 17's cost
My fathers FX50S has 21's, tire selection for that is minimal

Interesting. I always wondered about Hankook Ventus V12, plus they are priced lower than a lot of other 19's. So are they pretty quiet? Early next year I'll need to swap these Bridgestone Potenza reo5a for some fresh tires. They always got bad reviews but I didn't mind them but looking for something with a little less road noise.
But don't want to sacrifice grip.
Interesting just came across this Russian company: http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=1...me=Nokian+Z+G2
Anyone heard of them before? Looks like they make a wicked winter tire...

Yeah look at the load index, clearly the 45 series tire is the better value as it's able to handle 220 lbs more per tire than the 35 series tire. Weird that the 40 series is more expensive, must be a popular size.
