I currently have Red taillights. I've been deciding on getting some red/clears from ebay. What do you guys think? Ebay or stay with current taillights?

Very rare to see all red... and the red/clear almost everyone has them I think the red and smoked would look good on your black max. If I had to choose one I'd say red/clear

The red/smoke is a good idea. Didn't think of that. That would look good too.

 

 

Myself, i would keep your current lights and tint them leaving the reverse light area alone.

 

get a 96 trunk and put on some David L's lol. but +1 on the red/smoke

There's a nice variety of aftermarket tails for 4th gens, the aftermarket tail options for the 5th suck. OEM>everything else

 

I've got all red. Looks awesome.

They're just all reds with red translucent tint on top of the clear turn signal. Can be had for a couple dollars from a tint shop. No need for BlueBat overlays.

edit: Oh, nvm, you're a 4th gen. I did it on my 5th gen. My vote is red/clear then. All red won't look right next to the reverse light.

 

it looks like you went custom on your current pair, why dont you slightly spray them with tint..
i say stay with what you have and further modify them to your liking

 

Hate to be the *****, but it's a 14+ year old car. I say save your money, and get something useful. At least if the EBay lights were a real upgrade, but they don't appear to be anything special.

Seriously, save your money for mechanical needs, or put towards a newer car some day...

I say go with the Red/Clear

Most of my money goes into mechanical stuff that needs to be replaced and very little goes into 'looks'

Imo, I rather invest in a 14 year old car than a new car. To me, old cars are far much more reliable than newer cars. Once I am done with my current Max, I might get another one but white or a 5th gen, that's if I can ever accept the taillights from the 5th gen in my life . Buying a new VQ30DE from Nissan is far less expensive than buying a new car.

Apparently most of you guys prefer the red/clear or smoked. The only reason why I want to change is because the left one is cracked in and there. The Vinyl also seems to be falling apart. Its not something major or noticeable but I know its there and it bothers me.

 

I do like those. With the price and free shipping, it's a good deal. The ad says that they fit 99-97, so the 95-96 lights are different?

 

A friend of mine has a 3rd gen with well over 300,000 miles on it, and he still drives it every day. His dad bought it new back in 91, and he got it a few years later when his dad bought another car. He's never rebuilt the engine, only resealed it when the oil leaks got bad. He just recently replaced all the suspension bushings with polyurethane ones. It still drives like it's a new car, and still has good power despite the mileage. The car was repainted once, and the interior is still in very nice shape.

 

'95-'96 tails are in fact different.

 

Wow I didn't know that. I do know that the 95-96 has a different styled front end from the 97-99's, with the later ones looking more sporty.

 

Stay with the stock ones. Stock is the best

 

The entire rear is different as well.

 

A friend of mine has a 96 and a 99 and I never even noticed Next time I go over to his place I'm gonna have to take another look.

 

Spoilers and the shape of the outer tails are the only things that are the same.

 

To clarify, because the trunk lids are different.

 

That, the shape of the inner tails and the rear bumper are all different as well. I was trying to let him figure that out

That's why you just get yourself a trunk lid off a 97-99 and then you can rock the aftermarket ones.

So what tails did you end up going with?

 

I still have the red ones. I need to get some coils and fuel injectors before I spent money on the taillights. I will go with the red/clear from eagle eye. Other red/clear tailights look to bright...reminds me of altezza lights...

 

i personally like the red/clear, had the the black housing euro's then changed them 2 months later to the red/clear, then i ended up blacking out the red, and leaving the clear
