Hail protection

Does anybody here own a car cover that is actually tough enough to protect from falling hail?

That is all I'm worried about. Being from Dallas, TX the weather here brings plenty of hail, and to be honest, it scares the crap outta me.

Any covers? Brand? Site? Experience?

I can tell you this much avoid this one, my aut had one that lives in Irving for her old Lexus that she parks outside. This past spring it was useless against the hail when we had that decent amount of hail.

Dude, I was lucky enough to be parked in the garage when the hail came down for almost a week straight.

I've seen some but they're like $300! And they don't seem to be that thick...

Yeah they aren't all that. My wife was off that week on bed duty per her doc, she saw the warnings on the news so she pulled the Z in the garage as I didn't have time after watching the warnings. Thank god I was running late and parked the Max at in terminal covered parking at DFW the day before it struck (my company didn't like that though)...lol.

I guess I'd have to see and feel it to see if it would hold up. At least they make an effort to show a protection level.

Living in the Dallas area for 10 years, I still remember driving down 183 and seeing all the cars with front and rear windows with holes the size of grapefruit punched thru them and a few with holes in the roof and hood from hail so I don't think even portable tents are going to help you out much with the Texas size hail so prevalent in Dallas. Even with a cover the winds get so gusty that, if it can blow down the Cowboy's training camp tents, your cover will most likely end up in the next county anyway. If you can't park in a parking garage, I think your money will be better spent on your insurance policy deductibles! I was very fortunate to have a parking garage available at work when I lived there.

This is coming to market in early 2012, it's been mentioned in my Porsche forums many are waiting with baited breath. Watch the videos and read up on the technology, looks impressive and it will be priced at $299, will fit everything from an Excursion to a Fiat 500.

You know it well, this storm that we had in May really tore the Irving area up. thousands of cars and roofs battered to h*ll literally!
