So lately I have had a weird problem with the max (98 5speed). About once a week the max will have a weird idle problem where if I leave it running for about 30 seconds or so without hitting the gas it will bog out and stall. The weird thing is that no matter what gear I am in it will drive really crappy like it will bog around 1-2.5k rpms and then once it hits three it feels like a brand new engine again and takes off. The scary thing is is that one day I was parking and it stalled on me while I was coasting into my spot (clutch in) and the car stalled and the power steering locked up on me. I am really confused what this is because it only happens about once a week or so and I put premium fuel into her. Any suggestions? I'm hoping its nothing major and just some quick fix. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys!

 

Check & Clean TB, IACV & MAF

 

Agreed, sounds like your MAF may be dirty. Get some MAF safe cleaner and spray it out, let it dry and reinstall.

Definitely clean out the throttle body. I had an erratic idle at start up where it would almost stall.

Cleaned out the TB and she starts up great

Agreed. Clean the MAF last if the cleaned TB/IACV doesn't solve the problem.

 

Ok, Is it a long procces to clean the throttle body? Just curious.
