Intermittent vibration issue

Have eibach lowering kit and aftermarket wheels and tires. Crushing on the freeway between 50-.... I get a vibration that comes and goes. Sometimes its terrible and other times cannot be felt at any speed above 50. At first I thought it was a balance issue but everytime I have seen that its a constant problem not intermittent. Any ideas? Thanks!

This didn't occur until about 8k miles after install of wheels tires and springs...

Make sure you have hub-centric rings installed. I assume you got a 4 wheel alignment after adding the springs?

hub-centric rings? aren't those pressed onto the wheel?

They are Niche Circuit Wheels...

Thanks!

If the center bores on the new wheels are bigger (which is very likely), you'll need to get hub rings.

When you installed your springs, did you get an alignment?

I took it in and they said there was no reason for one the camber on the backed was a little off but not enough to warrant a 150 alignment in his opinion... If I needed rings wouldn't it of vibrated from the beginning?

Thanks again!

You DO need an alignment after adding lowering springs.

Did they in fact have it up on the alignment rack and tell you it was within spec?

Yup. They said it was not bad enough to require an alignment. Next time I go in I will tell them to align it regardless.

Would an alignment issue cause vibrating though?

An alignment that's out of spec generally doesn't cause a vibration that you're getting.

My guess would be the lack of hub-ring on your aftermarket wheels. It's always nice to find an aftermarket wheel that is hubcentric to your hubs to not encounter this type of issue.

Asked my wheel vendor he said the wheels are lug-centric...

Said more than likely they are just improperly torqued. Anyone know the correct torque?

I'd go 90-100ft lbs.

It's possible but not likely your issue. You will want to be sure your alignment specs are correct to prevent expensive tire wear and to have the nice handling characteristics the Maxima has.

Be sure you have hub-centric rings installed on your wheels. That will cause a vibration without them for sure!

Also, be sure the tires are balanced correctly. I have had tires balanced then had a vibration. Took them back, put back on the balancer and they were out of balance.

Some guys just suck at balancing. Make sure they mounted the tire with the balance dot at the valve stem, if not, have them correct it.

This. I've stopped taking my car for balancing to certain places because they never do it correctly and i end up with vibration and getting them rebalanced. Generally a 45+ mph vibration which turns into feeling like i'm driving on railroad tracks at 70+.

Hmmmmmmmm. Irregular tire wear from not aligning it?

I have put springs on 4 Maximas and a many other models of cars. EVERY SINGLE ONE needed to be aligned after I added springs.

I am ordering hub centric rings... Anyone know the hub size of the max? Then I am going to get an alignment....

It seems to just be the rears as my steering wheel does not shake a bit...

Update...

Got an alignment
Rebalanced the wheels
Got hub centric rings
Trqd to manufacturers specs

Still vibrates but not as bad for sure... What's the next step?
