I actually bought the Max specifically with winter driving in mind.
I had to get something that was better than the Mustang I had, but still had power.

I'm not happy about getting it pounded with salt and other winter road debris, but its my daily driver so that stuffs gonna happen regardless.
I do like to keep it clean so salt and whatnot doesn't really affect it much.

If I was in Alberta, I might get something like an older Toyota Matrix AWD and use that as a winter car. Light, nimble, AWD, can put chains on it, still has functionality.

Georgia, USA.... Salt is used more on collard greens then roads, so... If it snows or ices, I'll use my GFs Matrix (which I have chains for, too )

I have a set of 18" Pirellis on a second set of OEM wheels for the Max and it's a machine in the snow.

Im in GA so the last real winter driving I did was with my 06 Maxima, and the traction was horrible, but Im comparing my FWD to my brother and father who both have AWD.

But for anyone who has to drive in snow, winter tires

Just got my max so this will be the first time in the snow with it for me up in WI. Has new tires from the dealer on it, so I wanna give those a try first, then see how if I need snow tires. Personally I think winter driving is about 70%+ driver, then tires, etc help..

Just wanted a rough idea. I do drive mine as a daily driver, But would keep it parked if had the option. and Not because its a "4 door FWD sedan" but too keep the Kms down.

Just put my stock wheels with the Blizzaks on today. Don't be fooled, "all-season" tires aren't all season tires anymore if you get snow where you live. Get some Blizzaks and the car will be a tank.

I'm with Gear Head on getting Blizzak for winter use. I used the stock RSA last season and I wouldn't recommend. But too each his own.

Would'nt recommend at all! This would mess up all the balance of the car. in a turn the back of the car will tend to overturn, could end up pretty bad...

Had a saab 93 v6t before and had some Kumho KW27 winter tire (235-45-r17) and they were excellent. Just bought a new set for the maxima, hope they'll be as good as before!

I drove my BMW through three bad winters, no damage at all from the salt.

This will be my first winter in the MAX and I got some new Goodyear Assurance touring (great rated all-season tire) , they don't handle that great around turns but I bought them mostly for the winter as I will probably get bigger wheels and tires next summer.

I did this for many years and never had any issues. Just be careful while braking in slippery conditions or the rear end could slide around on you.

I am about to get a maxima... but also wondering if this car will be reliable enough to drive through snow. especially here in Wisconsin... i am not worry so much about myself as I have been driving a fwd car for 5 years without any issue, but I am more concern of my wife as she is a beginner driver and never drove in winter before....

Put Blizzaks on it and neither you or your wife will have any issues. Just remember to shut the TCS off in the snow, it is a PITA when you're trying to get some traction.

This will be my third winter wih the Maxima. I found that in anything more that a very light snow it was terrible. No traction, traction control light on all the time. Couldn't get down my flat road on one moderate snow event that my 01 Altima handled fine. I drove my Jeep when it snowed much. I was disappointed in the snow performance - I thought a FWD car would be much better.

I attributed this stinky performance to a combination of the stock tires (which Tire Rack rates very poor in snow) and the VDC on the car. I put on a set of Conti DWS tire, and I'm hopeful it will be better. If not, I have an Acadia that should be better, but the Max is my daily driver.

Blizzak is a winter tire. Handles very well in cold temps. Here's a link if your interested. http://www.bridgestone.com/products/...zak/index.html

Mines a garage queen in the NE winter. The 4th gen and F350 take up the slack. My goal is to get the thing paid off before the salt eats it to death. Although having said that my 4th gen with 200k has no rust and it has braved a dozen winters. The main reason I got another Max is they don't rust that much. I can fix what breaks, but rust is a concern. Hope this one lasts as well as the last one.

Wish they made a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup. This ford of mine is disolving before my eyes and I undercoat it every year with oil.

Not sure, best bet would be to call up a local dealer and inquire if they carry them and how much they go for.

I'm sure the RSA's were the reason for the poor snow performance. At the end of the day snow tires don't really add any additional cost...while the snow tires are on the car the summer tires are sitting on the shelf, therefore prolonging their life. Plus IMO there is no "all season" tire anymore.
