I noticed Maximas and Civics have way different sounds. Maxima = Beefy Civic = Ricey. Does anyone have theirs sound like a Civic. I only found one so far >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiAT3QuVLng

I just bought my dog some chicken and RICE food. I'll have to check when he #arts to tell if the sound is from a nissan or honda!

Where do you guys come up with this stuff???

No, it doesn't.

Yeah, my WSP y-pipe has some rasp to it that I've been trying to kill but to no avail. I replaced my test pipe with a resonator, welded in a new/updated flex section for the y-pipe, and while it's better than before, there's still the bees in a can sound. The only thing I can think to do now is get headers....

I mentioned the SRS exhaust in the 2.5" or 3", Please step in thread. After seeing/hearing my Maxima SRS CatBack. My brother bought the ($200 inc./shipping) SRS CatBack for his daughter's Accord and we installed it. To be brief, the biggest PITA was getting the stock exhaust off the hangers, SRS fitment/install was excellent, and the entire job including setup/cleanup took under 2hrs. on ramps. The sound (with the included silencer) is probably as pleasant as you'll ever hear on a Honda with a "Potato Launcher" muffler. It's quiet inside/outside the car with No Farting, Rasp, etc. And you can't hear the car driving away after about 20'.

Yes it does

No, since its not the y-pipe itself that makes the sound more pronounced its the fact that the when you get a y-pipe you're pre-catless. So whatever y-pipe you get will result in the same sound. You're resonator and muffler ultimately have the most affect on the sound and whether you still have cats or not.

You've promoted SRS so much they need to cut you in to a percent of their profits

I WISH! Just passing on good info on a good exhaust. If SRS can make an exhaust with a "potato launcher" muffler sound good on a Honda! Well, you be the judge.

I appeal to make the term "ricey" go away, and add beener to the list of the way a honda sound.

EXPLANATION:

Its come to my attention that if anything is over-done her on the org, they receive the award of ricey. Why? I know asians who have nice pimped rides, but they don't sound or look like ****. its the beeners that make their cars unbearable to look at, while at the same time annoying everyone in a ten mile radius with their crappy 4 banger coffee can muffler setups..

Yea or Nea??

I have a Warpspeed Y pipe with no cat, 2.5" stainless steel manderal bent cat-back wit a magnaflow muffler and single wall magnaflow tip.

Its not raspy because i have two 24" resonators, one after the y pipe then my O2 bung, then my second 24" resonator.

No, it doesn't. You have a thread that shows your progress. A Y-Pipe, short ram intake, and some sway bars don't make your car sound like a V8. We're all glad that you finally got around to fixing all of the problems with your car, but being the self proclaimed king of Chi-town doesn't warrant you to embellish facts. We've all done everything you've done (and more). You've called me a "newb" and said "I like how you tried to come at me." My car, and many others on here would dump on yours. Our don't sound like V8s. Neither does yours. Trying to sneak by and say that it does won't work when we all have the same car.
P.S. You post too much.

I have a Cattman Y and a test pipe.. It does have a little too much of a "tinny" sound that I don't love, but I wouldn't say it sounds like a Honda. But I guess you do what you gotta do for performance? I'd like to mess around with some other mufflers to see if it sounds a little better.. For now, I have to deal with it.

My car used to sound like a 4.6L Mustang before I put it back to stock.

That was with gutted pre-cats, a resonated test pipe, a 13" resonator that came with the Greddy EvoII eBay knock-off, and a tip that dumped out the side 8" in front of the passenger's side rear wheel. 2.25" piping all the way back.

I have the resonator deleted from my factory exhaust. It has a nice subtle tone to it, but when I get on the revs, the intake howl from my SRI drowns out the exhaust, so I'm not sure how it sounds once that happens.

This thread is a fail for one main reason. You can't compare a Maxima's V-6 sound to a Civic's 4 cylinder sound, no matter what exhaust configuration you have.

yeah kinda like you cant compare a maxima's v6 sound to a deep throaty rumble of a v8

this is what a v8 sounds like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqJqX...eature=related

Here's an explanation. 4/8cyl. engines power impulses occur at 90/45deg. intervals. Optimum exhaust header tuning can be at 90/180deg. (Y-Header) since a V8 is basically 4cyl.x2 banks. Rasp is caused by turbulence/imbalance in the exhaust system a 4cyl. is more susceptible to this due to minimal overlap between firing impulses. Turbulence/imbalance can happen for many reasons i.e: cam timing/exhaust reversion and/or header pipe length discrepancies. I suspect the Hondas suffer from this, the only way to minimize the rasp/fart sound is with an exhaust that damps those sound frequencies, and a poorly designed resonator/muffler/pipe system won't do that.

6cyl. power impulses occur at 60deg. intervals. So optimum tuning occurs at 60/120deg. (Y-Header). This is why an equal length Header/Y-Pipe minimizes imbalance/turbulence/rasp vs. unequal length setups that can cause problems unless the pipe lengths are carefully tuned to those frequencies. I.E: OEM VQ manifolds look to be tuned at 120deg. by the way 2cyls. are mated to 1 runner, the Y-Pipe is equal length though restrictive, and doesn't tend to rasp even with gutted pre-cats.

The only adaptation/exception I ever encountered was the 1973 Mercury Capri's German built 2.6L V6. It had only 4 exhaust ports on the heads/manifolds and ran a full dual exhaust through 2 triangular Helmholtz resonators just off the manifolds (similar to where the pre-cats are located) 2 offset inlet/outlet mufflers (I replaced with "Cherry Bombs") before the axle, and a dual inlet/outlet straight through resonator after the axle. That particular exhaust configuration sounded similar to a V8. It had a deep rumble from idle to ~ 3K RPM, and transitioned to the "Indy Car" wail you hear with 180deg. headers, from ~ 4-6K RPM at red-line.

I'm trying the same silencing - adding 2 resonators. Right now I'm Warpspeed Y & Stillen SS Mandrel Catback (ie no resonators). It's obnoxious.

no matter how loud your intake or exhaust is, theres still a completely different sound coming from under the hood.
