Finally took off the Blacked out tails!!

Well just to let you people know, I finally decided to make my tails look like original again. I mean it definetely was not worth it because it took me over 5hrs to take that crap off. I mean it took only 30mins to paint it, and then takes it 5hrs to take it off.

Man I had to use Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover. That crap took me so much time that I dont think it is worth blacking out the tails. Plus I noticed that now the tails are like 100% brighter.

My goodness my hand hurt, I think I burned out mad brain cells along with all my nose hairs from the nail polish remover.

PS this is what it looked like before when it was blacked out.

Looked cool and "ACTUALLY COOL" are two different things. I did notice that it cut about 50% of the light output for the brake light and turn signal lights, which was not the cool part.

I dunno...looked cheesy to me. Yeah it does remind me of Pontiacs. 02s dont look that much better than blacked out (especially on black cars)

You got a little too excited with the paint. I used smoked translucent taillight paint on my 96 and it looks great. It's not remotely as dark as your taillights were and nearly all my stock light still shows thru. You can still see the outline of the reverse, turn signal, and brake lights. Mine's smoked. Your's were flat out black. No wonder the cops pulled you over. My tails look exactly like the taillights on the 93-96 RX7 TT or later model VW GTIs.

I liked it, that's why I did mine too, but not as dark, you can still see my brake lights and turning singals perfectly, good thing is that I changed my rear turning signals from PIAA Hyper White to Red, so I do not get pulled over anymore, cops do not bother me AT ALL about the blacked out tails. But they are hot as hell.

Hapy that you got the paint off though. I'm lazy, woulda baught new ones, LOL

I agree! The way you did yours one can't make out the the outlines of the individual shapes. Lucky you didn't use paint thinner to take it off! The first time I tried it on mine, it was too dark and I got bubbles and stuff and wanted to start all over. I used paint thinner and it started making the plastic dull. Now I know to use nail polish remover when I want to take mine off.

Yes sir DaveB, I got WAYYYYYYYYYYY too excited with that VHT Taillight translucent paint. I mean to be PERFECTLY honest with you, take a guess how many coats I had to put on there to get that type of DARNKESS?

REALLY TAKE A GUESS!

8 coats on each tailight. I would not stop until it was COMPLETELY blacked out.

But even though, I think they look fine STOCK, and it was a mod that ended up costing me, but more like costing me HOURS of my time instead of money.

I just put 02 taillights on my 00 silver SE. I think they look alot better than the stock black ones.

However, I saw a black 02 a couple times. And I have to admit, the new taillights dont look as good as the old ones on a black max.
