Hey Makc1kNYC, did you delete your resonator first then installed the y-pipe? If so was the sound more throaty? I want my car to sound throaty without buying the 40 series flowmaster mufflers.

No, first I installed the Y-Pipe then the straight pipe.

The sound is more throaty and sounds like a Junior c63 AMG :-). It's not loud when your driving normal still people turn heads when they hear me creeping at normal acceleration. But when I get at it the exhaust sounds so nice all of my friends just love it! Flowmaster, Magnaflow are just a little louder and it sounds diff. Stillen doesn't stand a chance to my exhaust now.

I'm not an expert on exhausts so tell me if this is true: If I remove my resonator, will it sound more throaty with the stock y-pipe and stock exhaust? Do you recommend this? I just want a little more rumble. If it does not work, I might as well get the 40 series flowmasters exhaust.

Without the Racingline Y-Pipe it will sound raspier...
I don't recommend you getting any aftermarket exhaust for this car it's not worth it and especially for the money! Trust me ;-).

ok thanks. I'm thinking of getting the Dynomax Racebullet muffler to replace the resonator for a little bit more rumble and replacing the y-pipe in the future. Y-pipes are expensive.

I have many ways of modding this car trust me and I thought about doing so much to this car to make it faster it's not even worth it for the money... We hace Auto CVT transmission you can't do anything with it at all except putting a Nitro Kit on it and the result's would be "blowing your engine"!

This car is fast but not fast enough, we can't compare it to G35's, G37's, 350Z, 370Z, 335i, Mazda Speed3, STI's Evo's... and many more. It's fast until 100Mph but then it dies out and top speed is 130... The way I see it this car is for looks and the way it sounds, yes you can go fast and hang in until the certain limit but what can you do?!

Thank God I leased this Maxy, I already know what I'm getting after. It will be a 6Speed Manual V6 with more power and 3x better the looks. I'm happy with my car and I have people asking me so many questions when I'm at a gas station or driving . Our car's are beautiful don't get me wrong but like I said this CVT thing I don't like it and the top speed .

My suggestion to you is save your money, get a y-pipe and do the straight pipe you will be happy and wont regret it. This week I will post more videos just so you can see how it really sounds .

Ok thanks man. I'll take your suggestion since it sounds awesome. BTW if your going to get rid of your Max, can I buy your y-pipe? I live in Jersey and going to NYC isn't going to be a problem for me.

Not a problem, but I will start selling everything next year in 2013 January before I give it away. This is the last year I will have fun with this car . Whatever I have you can buy .

Destroying a myth.

"an engine needs backpressure to work correctly." Is this true?
No. This idea is a myth. As with all myths, however, there is a hint of fact with this one. Particularly, some people equate backpressure with torque, and others fear that too little backpressure will lead to valve burning.
The first reason why people say "backpressure is good" is because they believe that increased backpressure by itself will increase torque, particularly with a stock exhaust manifold. Granted, some stock manifolds act somewhat like performance headers at low RPM, but these manifolds will exhibit poor performance at higher RPM. This, however does not automatically lead to the conclusion that backpressure produces more torque. The increase in torque is not due to backpressure, but to the effects of changes in fuel/air mixture, which will be described in more detail below.
The other reason why people say "backpressure is good" is because they hear that cars (or motorcycles) that have had performance exhaust work done to them would then go on to burn exhaust valves. Now, it is true that such valve burning has occurred as a result of the exhaust mods, but it isn't due merely to a lack of backpressure.
The internal combustion engine is a complex, dynamic collection of different systems working together to convert the stored power in gasoline into mechanical energy to push a car down the road. Anytime one of these systems are modified, that mod will also indirectly affect the other systems, as well.
Now, valve burning occurs as a result of a very lean-burning engine. In order to achieve a theoretical optimal combustion, an engine needs 14.7 parts of oxygen by mass to 1 part of gasoline (again, by mass). This is referred to as a stochiometric (chemically correct) mixture, and is commonly referred to as a 14.7:1 mix. If an engine burns with less oxygen present (13:1, 12:1, etc...), it is said to run rich. Conversely, if the engine runs with more oxygen present (16:1, 17:1, etc...), it is said to run lean. Today's engines are designed to run at 14.7:1 for normally cruising, with rich mixtures on acceleration or warm-up, and lean mixtures while decelerating.
Getting back to the discussion, the reason that exhaust valves burn is because the engine is burning lean. Normal engines will tolerate lean burning for a little bit, but not for sustained periods of time. The reason why the engine is burning lean to begin with is that the reduction in backpressure is causing more air to be drawn into the combustion chamber than before. Earlier cars (and motorcycles) with carburetion often could not adjust because of the way that backpressure caused air to flow backwards through the carburetor after the air already got loaded down with fuel, and caused the air to receive a second load of fuel. While a bad design, it was nonetheless used in a lot of vehicles. Once these vehicles received performance mods that reduced backpressure, they no longer had that double-loading effect, and then tended to burn valves because of the resulting over-lean condition. This, incidentally, also provides a basis for the "torque increase" seen if backpressure is maintained. As the fuel/air mixture becomes leaner, the resultant combustion will produce progressively less and less of the force needed to produce torque.
Modern cars don't have to worry about the effects described above, because the DME (car's computer) that controls the engine will detect that the engine is burning leaner than before, and will adjust fuel injection to compensate. So, in effect, reducing backpressure really does two good things: The engine can use work otherwise spent pushing exhaust gas out the tailpipe to propel the car forward, and the engine breathes better. Of course, the DME's ability to adjust fuel injection is limited by the physical parameters of the injection system (such as injector maximum flow rate and fuel system pressure), but with exhaust backpressure reduction, these limits won't be reached.

I'm glad somebody took the time to post this! I can assure you that I have seen NO ill effects of my straight-piped rear section. It is a little throaty with only the oem resonator and I finally replaced mine. But, it sounded mean with no mufflers and just resonator. I replaced the resonator with a Magnaflow round tube muffler (not the glass-pack) and the raspy tone was tuned out. However, when you nail it this thing sounds evil! I used a 27" long muffler that is 6" round and it fits perfectly. Don't let the wive's tales of days gone past fool you. These current computers are pretty dang smart

Mark, now I know what I am asking for for my birthday after listening to your exhaust! But I got a different question for you, I was reading that you have 8,000k HID on both your headlights and fogs. Are they overpowering, do people flash you like you got your high beams on? I got 5,000K for my headlights and I'm on the fence about a matching pair for my fogs and some switchbacks? Any thoughts?

LOL that post is like a 3 page essay on backpressure. I would give that an A+. But yeah thanks for the info. I feel better removing my resonator and adding a y-pipe in the future

Hey Makc1kNYC, whats the condition of your wheels and tires? If your selling them to me, will you sell them as a set? When you get those 370Z wheels, save the 19's just for me. Are they gunmetal or just hyper silver. I can't tell the color. Thanks again.
