What are "directional" tires???....

I just got my Dunlop Sport A2s....

Does anyone know if they are directional tires????

What ARE directional tires anyways?
How can I tell???

Is there some special way to put them on? I don't want the shop to mess it up, and I'm pretty sure they don't know how they are...

thanks

If they are directional, they should have an arrow on the sidewall indicating the direction of rotation.

I've seen several BMW roadsters with their directional tires on wrong. This probably happens like this...

Looser gets a bimmer.
Looser takes it to jiffy lube.
Jiffy lube tells looser its about time to rotate the tires.
Looser says do it.
Jiffy lube sees the front and rear tires are different sizes, so they rotate side-to-side.

This is wrong for two reasons...
The directional tires end up on backwards.
BMW service schedules dont call for tire rotation on any of their cars.

thanks.. i haven't found an arrow though.... but the way the thread design is, it's 4 of the exact same tires... if you point them all the way it says ("this way in"), the thread will look different on each side, no matter how you assort them.

here:

you can see how the outer part is just a little different.. while they are both standing the way they are supposed to be. Is that ok?
I guess I'm too paranoid.

eh
these are not directional.... they are "Asymmetric". meaning the outer part is different from the inner part... but when they are mounted there is a difference on both sides.. like the thread of all 4 points in the same direction....

for front wheel drive cars equipped with directional tires, tires should be rotated like this:

tire rack reccomends that you rotate high performance rubber every 3-5k miles, or with like every oil change....
