Suspension swap: OEM dustboots, or KYB?

Hi all,

Quick question for those of you who have installed the KYB AGX struts/shocks:

Would you recommend going with the Nissan OEM dustboots, or the ones available from KYB? I've seen references to the use of both options & I want to know what the reasons are for going with one or the other.

(This question applies to the boots for both the front and rear).

Thanks!

Go with the NISSAN dust boots. The KYB dust boots don't fit into the upper strut mount. They just sort of "hang" on the strut shaft and get tied down to the strut with zip ties. The OEM dust boots snap into the upper strut mount. A lot cleaner and more professional looking.

Ok. Thanks for the feedback - I had heard that, too.

My other concern though, was with the "built-in" bumpstops in the rear OEM dust boots. Can they be cut/trimmed at all, or not?

I'm going with the B&G lowering springs (1.6") and my concern is that the rear OEM bump stops may be too thick & could cause the top of the shock tube to "bottom" against the bump-stop if they're not cut.

Is this a valid concern? Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks again to all for your advice.

I don't think you need to cut the bump stops. I had H&R's and never hit the bump stop. B&G's aren't that much lower, you should be fine.

I've got Eibach's and didn't cut the bump stops - I should have. I bottom out all the time when I have 4 people in the car.

I also bottom out in hard turns on the autocross track; it definately upsets the car and effects handling.

In cases where you have coilovers, how would the dust boots fit?

Thanks sinewave. I plan to autocross/track my car too, so that sort of feedback is exactly what I was looking for.

Do you remember the design of the rear OEM dustboot? Since the bumpstop is "built-in," I'm wondering if it can be easily accessed to cut it at all (?) I'm guessing you'd have to peel back the corrugated boot to gain access the bumpstop to make the cut (?)

-Not sure if this can even be done. Anyone?

Have mercy, for I am the ignorant seeker of knowledge. . .
