Right after I bought my 35, I put a set of KYB GR2s on it for a better ride. About a year later I put in an Eibach pro kit to lower the stance. Right after that, I started to get squeeks and creeks out of the rear suspension.

Took it to the mechanics and he said the noise is coming from the rear because the springs are too short.

Anyone else out there running eibach pro kit? What shocks are you using?

 

I'm running Eibachs and I'm on Tokico HP Blues. They do their job in handling but the Eibachs provide a rough ride. I get squeaking too except from the right front shock, but I think it's because my bushings and whatnot are so old

 

Yeah you shouldn't get squeaking because the springs are short. Most likely something as he says, probably the bushings.

 

Sent the question to KYP tech support. Here's their answer:

unfortunally our struts are only for stock applications and not for lowered or lifted vehicles, if the kit lowers the vehicle more than 1” our part numbers will not work and we would not have a product available

Looks like either I'll have to put the original springs back on, or replace the struts again.

 

It's just KYB, the GR-2s should work fine with lowering springs. Think about it, lowering springs shorten the life of struts, so if they keep blowing out under warranty the company is going to be losing money that's why it isn't "made" for lowering springs. Same news for my Tokico HPs, but they work. Check your bushings and other components, a squeak is something I could live with as long as the strut is operating properly

 

Dont think the struts are working properly. Ride has been terrible since I put the springs on

 

try tokico illumina's instead. At least with my H&R springs they have been good to me since day 1. But check your bushings also just in case.

 

Check your strut mounts, that's what the problem of my squeaking was

 

when you installed the springs, the springs come with a plastic sleeve that is supposed to help prevent with the noise of the springs moving against the shock/strut. if you took those off then you have some noise from metal on metal. also if you didn't align the mounts with the springs properly that might cause an issue too. im running the same springs on my car with the tokico illuminas and im not having any issues. i also replaced the mounts. when i changed them out. as far as having a rough ride you have to keep in mind that lowering a car will give you a bit of a rough ride and that's why i choose to go with the illuminas because you can change the stiffness of the shock/struts to help with the ride quality.

 

Worked on this weekend. Replaced the upper shock mounts, bumps stops and boots.

Looking at the diagram that came with the bumpstops, I realized that the original shocks had been installed incorrectly. Bumpstops were upside down and bushings in the wrong order.

Once I put everything in correctly, the ride is great.
