02 Maxima Missfiring while in idle and at stop light

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum sorry for the long post below.

I have 02 Maxima SE with 191k miles. Last week it started missfiring with blinking service engine soon light. I took it to mechanic he checked the car and replace all plugs they were preety worn out. he also checked coils and said they were ok. Now I dont have issue with missfire while I am driving but it only missfires/take hickups while in IDLE or when I am at stop. It does it after car is warm up after few minutes. I also had the intake manifold gasket replace along with Valve cover gasket. Any idea what else I can do I drive 130 miles for work every day and need this car fix ASAP. Please help If you can I appreciate it very much.

First off, Welcome
Your in the wrong section so this will be moved too
But If i were to guess Id say you have an air leak, when the Intake manifold was put back on it didn't seat right or was over tightened causing a small crack (this happened to me)

Also how did the mechanic know the coils were all right? These very often fail, usually around 100k miles, If yours are all original i would be stunned that they are all still good.

Thanks for your prompt reply:
The intake manifold and valve cover gaskets were installed by different mechanic after the plugs were replaced. I had this missfire in IDLE before 2nd mechanic replaced the intake and valve cover gasket. I am not sure if these are orginal coils I got this car at 167k miles in last summer. both mechanic said they move the coil around in different cylendar and they look ok. Do you think I should replace all coils. After the gaskets were replaced I drove the car about 80 miles no SES has not return yet, but idle missfire is still there.

did you ever hook the car up to a code reader to find out the details of the SES light. If it was a misfire in a particular cylinder it would say so, example P0301 is a misfire in cylinder 1 and then you could try replacing just that coil ( Since coils are fairly expensive) If your getting a P0300 then its more likely an intake leak of some kind since if it were a plug, coil or injector it would be isolated to one cylinder. (Unless of course you had multiple issues) Take it to an auto zone or some place similar and have them tell you the code number

Thanks for your reply, Initially it had P0301 misfire in Cylinder 1 but mechanic said he checked the coil by replacing it to other cylinder. He replaced plugs and clear the code. since than intake and valve cover gasket was replace, it is only misfiring in D while standing still idle. I took it back to mechanic today it passed on his meter no code is coming up. So we decided that I will wait for SES light to pop again and than see what code it comes up with. He think it is missing bcoz of low idle in D, I don't believe that is true I always had same idle. In P mode it doesn't shake. This is real pain in the butt issue I am dealing with. I will keep you guys posted. Next step would be to replace coil pack I gues. If any one else has any solution please let me know. Thank you all.
